The Royal Bulgarian Army included 10 elite patron infantry regiments during the 1912 Balkan War and World War I time periods and more than likely before then. Each of these patron regiments was associated with a different royal personage, for example, HRH Clementine. These regiments wore superior quality green uniforms with black boots while the regular infantry regiments wore tobacco brown uniforms and sheepskin leggings tied with rawhide. Each patron regiment had a different color trim while all the regular infantry regiments had red trim. The Bulgarian 9th Elite Patron Regiment Clementine with blue trim is shown here as is a regular infantry regiment for comparison purposes.
