This is a new Hiriart non-catalog set of the World War II Spanish Blue (azul) Division which fought on the Eastern Front. It is just another example of Hiriart's unusual or rarely seen elsewhere subject matter. I am going to order it for my collection next year.

The leader of the Blue Division was General Agustin Muñoz Grandes who, obviously, served in the Spanish Civil War and was involved in the Battle of Malaga in 1937. After WW II he served in a variety of positions for Franco, including Vice President.

The Blue Division was Franco's sop to Hitler as he basically resisted most of his other demands.

Right you are Brad. The division served with Army Group North and was highly regarded for its fighting abilities.

Here are two new close-up photos of an officer and a soldier from this set.
