Received a nice gift today but I'm not sure of what range this figure is from. Britains I think, and the closest I can match from Andrew Rose's book is Irish Free State infantry.(The lack of puttees doesn't look right for a British infantryman.)

Any of the hollowcast Britains collectors able to identify this figure?

Thanks,

Scott

A nice gift, indeed! He's from Britain's N Range: 29N British Infantry, Khaki, with Peak Cap (running position). Here's a picture of of a painters' guide card for the first 32 of the range: View attachment 107879

Thanks for that card Mike - I have just been able to ID figure that I found in a box of bits and pieces from a car boot sale. Mine is 11N - Standing Firing. The only difference between mine and the one on the card - is mine is complete! Cheers! :Djb

Thanks Mike. That painters guide card is very useful. Would that make the figure pre or post WWII?

Mike - There's a bit of info on Infantry with Peaked caps (Standing, Kneeling and Lying - Set 1260: in Andrew Rose Book, 1985, page 85). They were apparently first introduced in 1933 - the first figures having gaiters. This soon changed to full-trouser type - as the one shown on your card.

Hope that helps - jb

Thanks, Scott, for sharing your puzzle with us, and thanks, guys, for the followup, especially Mike for the shot of the painter's sample.

If that sample is unchanged from when it was used in the factory, then it looks like the length of the figure's rifle is correct. I thought at first that it might have been broken, but it looks like the sample had a short barrel with no bayonet. Represents a carbine, perhaps? Or is the sample minus the end of a rifle?

It would be cool to see a completed set, wouldn't it?

Prost!
Brad
