I just received the following e-mail - anyone able to shed some light?

I'm a history bluff on native/black american history. For years now I 've been interested in doing a tribute to the tuskegee airmen & the buffalo soldiers.
So far I've been unable to find exactly what I need. So maybe be you can help me out. I'm looking for P-51D Mustangs w/ redtails and Noses, flight crews , jeeps, etc: Mainly something that I personally could paint for display.

The Tuskegee Airmen made up 99th Fighter Squadron. The squadron was posted to North Africa May 943, and attached to the 33rd Fighter Group flying P-40s.

During July 1944, the 99th was joined with three other Squadrons: the 100th, 301st and the 302nd to form the 332nd Fighter Group of the 15th Air Force. These were all-black squadrons, all trained at Tuskegee.

The Group transitioned to the P-51 Mustang, decorating them with bright red spinners and tails, Thus earning their nickname, "Redtails".

Corgi Aviation has a 1:72 scale Limited Edition P-51 Mustang Diecast Model "Creamer's Dream" (US32215), painted with a red tail, that was flown by Tuskegee Airman Charles White. White was one of the first 332nd Fighter Group pilots to fly a P-51D. If you google, you can find several sellers who still have one in stock. Otherwise, there are several models of the P-51C and P-51D that he can build and paint himself. I'd put my money on the Corgi as it's a nice piece of work.
Semper Fi!

Franklin Mint Armour also has a diecast TUSKEGEE AIRMEN P-51D "Redtail" in 1:48 scale. Item Number: FMC999 "DUCHESS ARLENE" P-51D MUSTANG.

This one was flown by LT. Robert WIilliams of the 100 Fighter Squadron, 332 Fighter Group, 15TH Air Force. This is a larger plane than the Corgi and, in my opinion, better quality. Although the Corgi model is not bad.

Captain Robert Williams flew 50 combat missions and later wrote the original manuscript for the 1995 HBO film "The Tuskegee Airmen". He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters and the Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation.

HI Peter,

I could have sworn I saw a 1:32 mahogany model of this from one of the distributors I deal with.

If you're interested, tell me and I'll forward their information to you.
