Guys

Booked our rooms for the show but just woundering if anybody can reccomend a good hotel in Chicago town centre. Myself and Dispatch get in on the Tuesday in Chicago a day or so early so we can at last see Chicago!!! after all these years of being so close but yet so far!

cheers

Tony

I stayed at the Drake years ago and it's in the middle of Chicago I believe. However, I think it's expensive although for a couple of big spenders like you it's just a mere pittance :D

Try "The W" hotel, there are two located in downtown near the Chicago Board of Trade. Should put you close to anything in the city you would like to go see.

Take Care

I guess the Lexington Hotel is no longer in business as a hotel, is it? And I don't even think it's been maintained as any kind of landmark, either, has it?

Prosit!

Hey Guys

Just booked the ESSEX two roads back from the lake! and just over from the Shedd!

So hotel booked for myself and Dispatch...........we get in on the Tuesday to the ESSEX and then have approxamatly 24hrs in Chicago......ssssssssssoooo come on you guys what do we do where do we eat etc etc

Tony

Well, that also means you are two streets from the Natural History Museum and the planetarium as they are all in the same area.

If you are a cheese cake fan, you could eat at the cheese cake factory on Michigan Aveneue, yes they also serve food there.

As far as food, it depends what you like, many, many options.

Oh yeah and maybe 5 miles south of you on Lake Shore Drive you can visit the U505 at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Hi Tony,

I work in downtown Chicago, but a little north and west of the Essex. I asked our office admin person, who lives in Chicago and used to be a travel agent for some good restaurant suggestions near your hotel.. here are her suggestions (she raves about them all):

1. Epic Burger for great hamburgers, fries (chips) etc. 517 S. State St.

2. Kitty O'shea's - "Irish Pub" (in the Hilton, near the Essex)

3. Edwardo's Pizza - Congress and Dearborn for all natural, Chicago style deep dish pizza.

4. Zapitista's - Great Mexican food

If you're going to be wondering around the city - maybe go by and see the Picasso statue between Washington and Randolph st.and Dearborn St. - also on Randolph very near the Picasso is Garrett's Pop Corn - which is the best popcorn I ever had! I just got some today for lunch... Also great views of the city can be seen from the Sears Tower Sky Deck and also the Hancock Building.. I think the Hancock affords a better view of the lake front. If you go north on Michigan Av a few few blocks you'll get to Millennium Park - which is very nice.. and which is in the general direction to go to the Picasso..

I hope this helps! Let me know if I can help you out with anything else!

Actually, some of the best place aren't exactly downtown, but there is plenty to choose from down here. Have fun and be safe.

eborris

be safe gulp!!! ???

Don't worry you'll be fine... I felt a bit nervous went I went over to London... I managed just fine... I come down to the city everyday and haven't had any problems - knock on wood....

You should be okay, it's the cab rides that will get ya, those folks are crazy. I assume you willl be taking cabs and not driving yourself. Anyway, you should always excercise a little caution in any large city you're not familiar with. I was born and raised in the city and I work here too.
