Closeing of the north gate of Hougomont. The kids had the week off from school and spent the night at grandmoms house so I had some free play time and threw this set uo together. Its mostly all britains figures but I added a few other figures here and there also.
I mixed in a few pieces to the britains north gate set to try and make it look like the back section of the farm complex. At some point in the future I,d like to try and make some of the barns on the north end of the complex and try another diorama but till then this makeshift set up will have to do.
Maybe Britains will get brave and take on the cow sheds or the great barn???

Nice battle Tim, looks like the blue guys are attacking the red guys. That is my knowledge of the Nap War. But they have cool colorful uniforms, and great calvary charges.:)

Well, that's not half bad is it! must have taken ages to set up, thanks for sharing. I like the little touches like the bucket and chain hanging from the jib. The new and older Britains go well together to make a nice display.

Thanks guys! I,ve got some more pictures to post of a british square under attack but I still have to sort through the pictures and upload them to my photo bucket account but I should have them up some time this weekend. That dioroma has a lot more figures in it and a lot of cavalry figures along with infantry and some artillary also. Its kind of cramped as I didn,t have the room I needed to set it up but I tried to jam pack the room I did have and it looks a bit cramped.:(

Seems like you've had a stressless time and got to relax and play for awhile. Great photos Tim they tell the story all by themselves. Looking forward to the next batch. My Lord General your contribution to the event no matter how small blends in quite nicely......Joe

Fish,

where's all your K&C napoleonics? 've you reserved them just like napoleon did with his old guards?

impressive stuff!

By the way, you being an expert, would you tell me what's the difference between K&C to-be-released Russian guards and ordinary line infantry (other than they fact that they're in common without plumes)?

A Guard is an elite unite made up of the best of the best! The strongest the bravest, the tallest the meanest must trusted troops of that army and were reserved most of the time and held for a major shook blow were needed. These troops also acted as a personal guard to the head of command and stafff of what ever army they belonged to, say for instance Napoleon or wellington would have there guard all around them as there personal guard.

A guard unit would not only be just all infantry either, it would inclued other units such as cavalry, artillary and other special units also such as sappers ect. ect.

As for the other units that you wanted to know about? you asked whats the difference between line troops? and guard?
Well line troops were the bulk of the army and were like todays common G.I. then as they grew more experience and proved them self in battle they could enter a light unit or grenadier unit and draw more pay and a bit more pride.
A grenadier is a trooper that needs to have at least X- amount of time in the service and battle experience depending on wich countrys army he serves in and needs to meet a certain hieght requirement as grenadiers had to be very tall and most wore head gear that would also make them apear even larger.
All grenadiers needed to be brave proven troopers as these were also elite troopers.

Light troopers wich would also include voltigers, jagers and other such light troops(different countrys had different names for various light shook troops, Russian light troops were Jagers)were also a special force of troops and these were smaller men choosen for there shooting skills and good battle field conduct and skill and were used to skirmish ahead of the main columns of line troopers and grenadiers.

There were also milita units also which were real raw troops raised real fast in times of war with very little training. You might also see them called landwher or other such names but that is just the german name for militia.

I hope this helps shed a bit of light on the subject for you.

Oh! the K&C troops were held in reserve this time around. They tend to look a bit larger and I can only fit so many figures in the scene and its a pain in the butt putting all these figures away when I,m done.:(

My next diorama that I,ll be posting soon is a british square being attacked and its also almost all britains figures also but I inclued a lot of K&C cavalry in it along with lots of other cavalry. I wanted to make the thing even larger and include more figures but I just didn,t have the room to set it up and as it is the thing looks cramped and I couldn,t get it set up the way I would have liked to have.

Fish, thanks for your detail info...

I am in the proccess of justifying myself to save up budget for the upcoming K&C Russian guards... My questions is whether the uniform will work for ordinary line infantarymen since K&C neglected the plumes?

(or acutally the uniform would not fit because the eagle on the shako is only reserved for the guards?)

Also somebody pointed out before that the Russian guards artillery will not have the crossed arms on their shako (but the eagle instead)... so did K&C actually produce line artillery instead of guard artillery?

They forgot the eagle on the shako on the artillary but they did put it on the cartridge pouch so no they didn,t produce line artillary instead.

Oh well the figures still look nice and at least we now have some troops other then british for our french to shoot at.

Fish,
Nice work my friend; the doomed French assault on the Chateau, what a slaughter, was a diversion that turned into a massacre..........
