Fish,
where's all your K&C napoleonics? 've you reserved them just like napoleon did with his old guards?
impressive stuff!
By the way, you being an expert, would you tell me what's the difference between K&C to-be-released Russian guards and ordinary line infantry (other than they fact that they're in common without plumes)?
A Guard is an elite unite made up of the best of the best! The strongest the bravest, the tallest the meanest must trusted troops of that army and were reserved most of the time and held for a major shook blow were needed. These troops also acted as a personal guard to the head of command and stafff of what ever army they belonged to, say for instance Napoleon or wellington would have there guard all around them as there personal guard.
A guard unit would not only be just all infantry either, it would inclued other units such as cavalry, artillary and other special units also such as sappers ect. ect.
As for the other units that you wanted to know about? you asked whats the difference between line troops? and guard?
Well line troops were the bulk of the army and were like todays common G.I. then as they grew more experience and proved them self in battle they could enter a light unit or grenadier unit and draw more pay and a bit more pride.
A grenadier is a trooper that needs to have at least X- amount of time in the service and battle experience depending on wich countrys army he serves in and needs to meet a certain hieght requirement as grenadiers had to be very tall and most wore head gear that would also make them apear even larger.
All grenadiers needed to be brave proven troopers as these were also elite troopers.
Light troopers wich would also include voltigers, jagers and other such light troops(different countrys had different names for various light shook troops, Russian light troops were Jagers)were also a special force of troops and these were smaller men choosen for there shooting skills and good battle field conduct and skill and were used to skirmish ahead of the main columns of line troopers and grenadiers.
There were also milita units also which were real raw troops raised real fast in times of war with very little training. You might also see them called landwher or other such names but that is just the german name for militia.
I hope this helps shed a bit of light on the subject for you.
Oh! the K&C troops were held in reserve this time around. They tend to look a bit larger and I can only fit so many figures in the scene and its a pain in the butt putting all these figures away when I,m done.
My next diorama that I,ll be posting soon is a british square being attacked and its also almost all britains figures also but I inclued a lot of K&C cavalry in it along with lots of other cavalry. I wanted to make the thing even larger and include more figures but I just didn,t have the room to set it up and as it is the thing looks cramped and I couldn,t get it set up the way I would have liked to have.
