hi,does anyone know where i can buy a good 55mm scale model of hougoumt for my son please?

JG miniaures seems to do the southern end, Britains only the north gate and well (why just those?) but can;t see any complte sets.

Thanks,

Hi,
Yes, Britains has the North gate (though the old one is better than the new one), which goes for around $100-150, and JG has the South Gate and 2 barns, which go foe $1500 total, and Britains has some walls (approximately $10 a piece) and the well $50. These where the focal points of the battle, which is why only they have models. No one currently makes the other parts but Crown Military Miniatures will eventual make other parts, though this is not going to be for a while. Hougoumont was HUGE, and to make the whole thing would result in a retail price of many thousands of dollars AT LEAST. What is your son using this for? That may help to know, as there are some other ways.
Good luck,
Sandor

Classic toy soldiers have the farmers building plus some walls for about $180.......but for a full scale layout of Hougoumont you cant beat Hovals 28m.

That is the South gate, not the farmer's house. The farmer lived in the chateau building, which was central in the compound. The gardener lived above the South gate, but yes, theirs is cheaper. Hoval's is great, but not 54mm, though it's definitely 10x more practical.

You are correct sir my mistake :redface2:..I plan on getting some of the Hovals buildings this year probably the gardener's house and walls to start with!

Cool! I'm saving for the South Gate- are you a fellow Hougoumont fan?

Yes i would say im a fan of Hougoumont find that part of the battle very interesting {along with the Squares}.
The whole complex must have been something in its day with the Chateau and Orchards/Gardens ect.

Nice to meet another Hougoumont fan! Sorry 'bout my nit-picking; I didn't mean to sound pretentious{sm4}. But it is still quite intact, though in dire need of repair. The Chateau and Great Barn were destroyed in the battle, and the gardens are now a paddock, but all the walls are there!

Thats ok.....I have looked at drawings of Hougoumont before and after the battle..
There is a group in Belgium who were trying to raise the funds to fix
or even just preserve whats still remaining.

thanks for the comments/help here.

hougoumont was drummed into me at school, amazing stuff.

i hope to build a decent diorama of hougoumont for my son.

i am buying w britain soldiers (about 50 so far) and bought the north gate from w britain but didn't realize how limited it is - just the north gate wall and that's it really. i hoped they might create the courtyard and surrounding walls at least, so you can place it in context on a decent sized base. not sure how i can really create a good diorama with only a section of wall.

i have a table in my son's play room about 6ft by 6ft and thought i might be able to piece together a diorama to suit.

thanks for the hovels tip, i see they do a 25mm hougoumont for about $1,000 - silly question but do you now if that will work with 55mm typical w britain soldiers- i presume not!?

I would recommend buying extras of the wall sections, as well as the well. When I have a bit more time, I can sow you the layout of how they can go to form that section of the farm.

The late Professor Richard Holmes was involved with the preservation group.

There is a video in the link may be of interest to the Hougomont fans as it gives some idea of the state of the buildings now.

Can't help with the scale buildings but thought this may be of interest!
