Hello,

I was thinking of ordering my first ACW Hocker set. Can anyone tell me how they measure up to other manufacturers? Are they old toy soldier feel? They look like they are by looking on the website.

They are painted in the style of old Britains. The scale is also a small bit larger, so that they fit in with all other toy soldier mfg. of the grand old era. I own some 6 sets now.. What set were you looking at? Michael

Hi Bama Boy,

I am a great fan of Mr. Hocker and of his products. As Michael has said, his figures are painted in the style of the older Britains figures. However, in my opinion, the painting, while in the older style, is much improved over the older Britains. If you enjoy the older Britains and, if you enjoy the lines Mr. Hocker offers, I believe you will be highly satisfied with his toy soldiers.

While I am fortunate to own several of his sets from different lines, I tend to specialize in his Imperial Durbar range. And,...I find myself frequently gazing at his amazing figures.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Bill's figures are well made and painted, with theme's carefully thought out. Although his prices are a bit beyond my range, they're consistant with the market. For those who've enjoyed his work over the years are well aware that he starts with a theme and stays with it for numerous sets. I have a couple of his unique sets and would love to have more. Go for it . . . you be pleased!

I have been collecting Bill's sets since last year and think they are first rate. I love the unusual subjects that he does such as the army at leisure series. With his ever-expanding American range I like to think of him as the Ken Burns of toy soldiers.

Here is one of my scenes from my Life in the Raj series.

I am not sure. I really like some of the non action sets. Like the muster set, selling of the slaves and such.....

I recommend them, too. His "Types of the American Revolution" series is excellent, and it really recaptures the look of classic Britain's.

Prost!

Those are very different ACW sets and make Bill's work stand out from the crowd. For the AWI his Camp Followers set (195) falls into that category as well.

Your Rah displays are some of the best I have seen. For something unique, try Bill's set #260, "Twentieth Century" on his website in the specialty goods section.

Wm. Hocker American Civil War soldiers/sets look fantanstic with any old Britains/Imperial/Dorset Soldiers (painted with traditional glossy paints) display/diorama. I own many, many sets in the Wm. Hocker ACW range and plan to post pictures soon of my ACW Hocker sets mixed it with all some of my old Britains Civil War toy soldiers and Dorset ACW toy soldiers and a few Imperial American Civil War toy soldiers to recreate the Battle of 2nd Manassas or Antietam (lots of Wm. Hocker Texans/Confederates and Union Iron Brigade & 5th NY Zouaves to show y'all). Mr. Hocker makes/paints toy soldiers like the old Britains ("special painting Britains") and in particular the Britains toy soldiers Britains should've made during the 1910-1960's period.

The Confederate Officer figures in particular for the Texas Brigade set #369 and Confederate Infantry Advancing set #371 go very well with the old Britains toy soldiers or new Dorset Soldiers American Civil War castings.
Same with the Union Officer in set#368 Iron Brigade.

FYI, I'm selling, via Ebay/ozziep9 several Britains/Dorset & Britains Conversion American Civil War and other figures/wars toy soldiers this week and in the coming months.
