Just curious and it may be viewed as private information by some Forum members...but here it goes anyhow.....what is the most you have spent in ONE shot at either a show or on an order of Toy Soldiers. I have spent just over 800.00 which will seem very little to some...but have spent a great deal more on a Military Antique approx 5x's that.

The higher the prices go the more I sweat and deny telling what it cost. Look straight ahead and keep my mouth shut.:p John

Little sweat> $50.00-$100.00

Medium sweat> $100-$500.00

Big sweat > $500.00-$1000.00

I don't mind, it really depends on the item, and how long you have been looking for it. I spent 5K a little while ago basicly for two items. A fellow train collector spent 253K for a single train set on auction a bit ago........way over the top in my opinion.....but he did receive recogntion to some priceless.

I have found in my experience items purchased in the $250 to $500 range will be the most valuable at a future date, because there is always a market in that price range.

I visited a gun show this weekend (first one in several years) and was suprised at the price of certain exotics I used to trade when I had my FFL Stoners for 2K+ Colt (pre-ban) CAR15- 2K+ and HK SP89 3K+ just incredible.

It does seem to me that the K & C market is getting a little soft as of late.

As to whether the market is getting soft probably depends on the piece. The first Char B just sold for almost $200, higher than that ever has gone. In the last couple of months, WS 67 King Tigers have gone pretty high.

Also, you have to consider that this time of year, people are probably spending more of their disposable income on Christmas presents so if the market is somewhat down, it's not necessarily a true reflection of spending slowing.

I'm sure you are correct, especially reguarding the receintly retired pieces. I was suprised at the WB02 and WS19W that went off tonight at very attractive prices. A couple of lucky collectors got early christmas presents!

I also thought the Beatles Set was going to be a real shoot out! I would have thought it would have easily exceeded 1K.

Who knows, perhaps everyone has obtained most of the pieces they missed.

$965, to Fred. I would have thought about $500 or so as this has appeal only to real hard core K & C collectors.

I think that answers any concerns about the K&C secondary market. Truth be told, I think the reason there have been a couple of bargains lately is (1) Christmas time, so most of the money earmarked for toys for children (by age, not by level of maturity) and (2) a saturation of the e-bay marked with many different retired items all at once (each individual collector is forced to chose from many items, which, if offered one at a time, said collector might have bid on all of, thereby avoiding serious bidding wars on many of the items).

I think you may have received far more responses if you set up a poll and set ranges ( ie $500- $1,000, $1,001- $1,500), etc.

Either way-

FY2008 Defense Budget arguments have been heard here at Camp Currahee. I have submitted a request to the Congress of one- ie, my wife, in the neighborhood of $1,800 for next year. I believe I will get close to that, but not ONE CENT over it :))

I spend $100- $150 a month on figures. I rotate my purchases, one month, I will buy 2 sets of East of India's Ancient Greeks. The next month, I will buy some KC- I have a list of all the retired pieces I need to pick up and which vendors have them at retail, as, I do not pay over retail. Then, back to EoI, then some dio pieces, EoI, then KC, etc, etc, etc.

For the past decade, I have hands down spent the bulk of my money on KC sets. My dios are coming out just great. 2007 rekindled my love of the ancient world so EoI's Greeks are my pick as well as KC's Egyptians. With EoI's Romans coming in the Summer, that will probably tip the scales heavily in EoI's favor.
