Everybody,
a while ago I found this display case in a "Hobby Lobby" shop in town and thought it would serve great to display a small Toy Soldier Scene.
What I want to show is the Tradition "Spoils Of War" set that Jeff (aujj65) painted for me.
Do you guys have any suggestions how to display it best? Should the two Britains wall sections get a gloss varnish because the figures are in glossy finish?
I think there is a tree needed or some shrubs. Would some flat trees in glossy finish work?
I have a few photos attached to show what I am talking about. Please pay attention to the fine detailed items, like sabers, muskets, helmets, bottle and such. They make a big difference in the overall display and I can't thank Jeff enough for his patience to finish all these tiny bits.
Any input would be appreciated!
Konrad

Konrad,

Talk to Polar Bear (Randy), he uses them frequently. He will give you some great ideas. Ask him about the base of the lid overlapping your diorama floor, he will know what you mean.

It's a beautiful case.

Do you mind, what did you pay for it?

He says they are on sale every couple of weeks and I want some,

Michael

Hi Michael,
I am in touch with Randy, the Polar Bear, and together we will figure out the best way to go, no doubt about it :)
The display case I am showing here was $24.99 on sale at a "Hobby Lobby" shop here in my town. The retail price shown was $49.99.
I think these cases will serve excellent to display some small scenes. I know that I will be getting some more the next time they are on sale.

Good price for a very nice display case.

I'm going to go there tomorrow and get a couple. Great for a small shelf diorama.

Good luck and get to work.

Michael

PS...That's a lot of cleavage on that woman.

That's how the casting came and Jeff just painted it :)
Wonderful figure!

Konrad,
That is a nice case. I have a couple also. I think you do need a tree or something to build height in the back left. I simple (or elaborate) terrain base with a dirt track leading through the gat would be cool. I think that it might be nice to gloss the WB stone, but I'd really like to hear some more input or experience on that, as well.
Waiting for more input on displaying this beaut of a camp set!
Mike

Hi, Konrad, I was thinking the same thing as Mike, he beat me to the punch. My first thought was having a full doorway, ie, posts and lintel, and a higher section of wall. I like Mike's idea of a tree, but then in that case, I would place the entire scene outside, instead of nestled in a ruin. Like a campfire completely outdoors.

That's a good display case. I get similar ones at Michael's. They're made to display footballs, but they're a good size for figure displays. Plus, Michael's has frequent sales at 40% off everything in the store.

Prost!

Since this is a camp scene, how about some tents rather than the walls? The young lady is after all a camp follower. Add a horse or 2, some barrels and crates and a tree and some shrubs:)

I vote for a Donkey!

Jeff

And a green ogre! ;)

Great case Konrad, they display very nice as a set.

Simon

 I just knew someone would get the green in there somehow !!! ]

I would leave the walls as is and may add some trees and shrubs behind. Or doing an indoor barn scene sounds promising also, starw on the floor, may an oxen or two in the corner, couple of chickens scratching about.

How about some WB haystacks, corn and wheat too?

Konrad,
Have we got any feedback on painting the walls/scenery gloss? I'm reaaly interested in what other members thinks about matte/gloss together.

Ken Osen has said that he makes the scenics to go with both the matte and gloss editions. I think glossy scenics look odd.

Hi Mike,
I don't think the gloss varnish for the matte walls gets the vote. I am still kind of curious though how that would look like. Maybe I try it on one piece. Beside the two pieces shown there is one more corner section with that set, so what the heck I think I have to find me some varnish.
Anybody knows a good one?
Thanks for all the ideas guys. So far I really like the donkey but that won't be easy to find.
The green oger I am not so sure about ;) :D
Maybe just some green spots of grass here and there.
The hay and corn stacks by Britains are nice but a bit too big for these figures in my opinion.
So, the walls are going to stay. I like the option to stick all those tiny bits on them, like the helmets, weapons and such.
Will need a kind of thin tree for the back left corner and some groundwork, a mix of sand and greens I think.
Now if I ever get a hold of some chickens, a dog and a donkey, all glossy and in the right scale, yes, they will definetely go on there.
We see.
Thanks for all the comments, guys.
