I start making a drawing in 1/30 scale of the building in question.
Then I use a sheet of 8mm thick Styrodur ( blue colour) isolation and cut out wondows and doors.
A moulding of window stonework is glued in place ( also for the door)
The stairs are also made of Styrodur 8mm and covered with plaster tiles .
Lower window frames are made from balsa
The facade is then covered with "Vallejo grouns texture " White Stone"

The outer retaining walls are fixed on both sides of the building
Now the best part starts: painting .
For the windows I use a base colour of ochre and then drybrush with cold grey
The entrance door is painted using the "AK Old and Weathered wood set (vol 1)
The stairs receive a base cover of Humbrol matt57 and are when dry further painted with oil colours (different shades of grey and white)
The retaining walls are painted in the same way;
The stucco effect is obtained by tapping the Vallejo white stone with a hard brush .
It's best to give the building more than 1 coat of stucco to get the desired effect (more layers will also protect the Styrodur underneath when using thinners in your paint)
Still to do: the painting of the facade , the window decoration ( putting in the glass and fixing the curtains) on the lower floors and putting in place the wall at the back of the building to complete the structure and give it strength
Will keep you posted and show the finished product.
forgot to mention : dimensions of the building : width 32cm, height 29,5cm ,depth 4cm
PLEASE FELL FREE TO ASK ME FOR ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION VIA PM

I'd love to see this with Napoleon and his Marshals with a parade of the Imperial Guard outside ......

Should look good.... and I love seeing all the progress pictures, so keep them coming ... well done !!!

As the thread developed I thought yes it'll be great to see such a scene as John suggests, but Guy is into WW2, whether it'll be German Occupation or Allied Liberation, that we'll have to wait for !
One thing for sure, Guy is certain to impress us when his dio is finished !

Here is the next step and....... almost there!
I have added the driveway, the little garden next to the house and part of the gate, all what is left to do now is: put in the other half of the gate, the front part of the diorama and add the figures .

Just need to choose the correct figures and vehicles to do justice to this splendid backdrop Guy. Should be the easiest part of this project and the most satisfying. Robin.

Wow, that came together beautifully!

Are the plaster window frames and outer retainer walls commercial items of homemade bits?

They started as commercial items, I took a mould and now I am making them myself

DSCI0040 (2).JPG here is the end result.
Also have a look at the completed diorama in the K&C section of this forum
