I wonder if anyone has seen this. I just came back from seeing it and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen, just so magical, with a wonderful story and characters, set in Paris in the early 1930s. The main actor in the film is the son of a watchmaker who has died and he keeps the clocks on time in the Montparnasse train station in Paris, which I've been in several times. He is left with an automaton that he and his father were trying to fix, and from there the story develops. A true masterpiece. Some may say it's a kid movie but it is sooooooooooo much more than that. I can't say enough good things about it.

Saw it last night with my wife and we really enjoyed it. A great family movie.
Big jump for Scorcese from his crime and action movies but he doesn't dissapoint.

It's a great paean to film making by Scorsese. By the way, one of the main characters in the movie, Georges Melie, did actually exist.

I know it's billed as a family movie but I think it's much deeper than that. For example, there was the machinery connection between the boy and the Inspector, who is admirably played by Sacha Baron Cohen. There is so much to this movie to be enjoyed and digested.

A movie I will probably see again.
Sasha was very good......almost forgot he was Borat!

Méliès is rather famous and noted for many cinematic developments. See his bio in Wikipedia.

His most famous movie is considered to be "A Trip to the Moon," which is part of the story of the movie.

I read the book when I was 12. It is excellent- for both the young and old. The illustrations are magnificent- all etchings, and the story is charming, very well written, and just complicated enough for it to be easy to read for the younger and entertaining at the same time. I can not wait to see the movie.
