I must admit when I am wrong and am doing it now. I cast some doubts on Andy's research on using the US M3A1 4X4 Scout Car as a Battle of the Bulge item. To my knowledge these left US Army front line service as soon as they could be replaced by M8 armored cars and M20 armored utility vehicles. Well, I found ONE still in US Army use in May of 1945! I was following a link from a military history site to a Czech site that had some interesting photos of the US Third Army liberating Bohemia in May, 1945. Lo and behold is a single M3A1 Scout Car still in US markings. I couldn't see all of the bumper, but the codes read "3A 513??" which indicates that the 513th "something was assigned directly to Third Army. My guess is an MP unit (based on other photos in the series). There weren't any 500-series tank or tank destroyer units, and an MP unit or Engineer battalion would be directly assigned at army level. So there was at least one of those old beasts still running around with a US Army unit until VE day. Score one for Andy!
