Hi everyone,

I live in Central Australia almost 2,000kms from the nearest King & Country dealer. I've only been collecting K&C for about a year and a half and rely on ordering items over the Internet (and this forum to keep me informed). I haven't yet had the opportunity to actually shop at one of the many well stocked K&C suppliers. While the anticipation of receiving a parcel from some far flung coner of the globe holds its own pleasures, I'm sure there's nothing quite like browsing and buying off the shelf. I'm always jealous when you guys post about how you're attending this show or that dealer.

Happily, next week my family and I are off on holiday and at last I'll have my chance to visit an actual K&C dealer. Now, my question is this; how do I go about exercising some restraint? My wish list is far longer than the amount I've been able to put aside for the trip and I don't want to jeopardise my family's financial future by letting the excitement of the experience get the better of me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Narrow your selections down to a certain number of items before you go depending on how much you want to spend. Then take a look at each item and pick your favorites. Also take a look at anything you might be interested in case you want to order it at a later date. I have three KC dealers in Gettysburg and nothing beats seeing the items in person for deciding what you like best.

Bring the amount of cash you can afford to spend, and leave your checks, credit and bank cards at the hotel. That way you can't overdo it.

Goodluck mate with your shopping.I live in Brisbane and there is a great shop here that would love to take your hard earned cash.It has a good range of things and the owner is ok too.Be very careful because you could spend far more than wife will like.We are not as lucky in oz with the amount of shops that sell the great things you see on treefrog but the Military workshop in Brisbane may be able to help you out.Cheers Chris.

Hi Adrian.Well if you take a list of what you really want for your particular collection then that may help you stay in a rough boundary of what you want. However a problem i have when i walk into a K&C UK show is this. You see it all laid out in front of you and you go crazy!.But i have found that once this 'must have it all rush' has gone i make a deliberate effort to calmly look at whats in front of me.I then picture what would work with what i've got already.

If like me you are also playing catch up with previous releases i do the following. If for instance i'm buying three or four items at a show i would buy two older items and perhaps one or two newer items. That way i continue my catch up whilst at the same time not feeling i'm missing out on new stuff.

But it is a sad fact that its never easy to choose,i blame Tony Neville;)

The fever is a terrible thing. There is no known antedote. Although from what I've heard on this forum a spouse can destroy the symptoms - but never the sickness. :D:D Enjoy the shopping.

I placate my darling wonderful wife by telling her when i'm dead and gone she's going to make a fortune selling it all!:D

Plus, if you buy a bunch of stuff, you may have to deal with paying to ship it back home- had this problem one year with buying some stuff when I was out of town on business. If you see something you like, especially if it is out of stock or retired, snag that immediately as the internet has made this retired status thing crazy.

But step back and look at it as well. For instance, if you can buy something off the internet with discounted or even free shipping why pay to buy the same thing off the shelf and then add in the shipping costs? Doesn't make sense in my book.

I hope you have fun on it and see some new and exciting stuff. Love your avatar as well.

I always think I know what I want when I walk into a toy soldier shop. But then something happens and I begin to want everything and I end up buying something crazy or starting a new line. Trust me, it is not a good feeling walking out of the store laden with boxes and then relizing that you have just spent an astronomical amount when your goal was say a 100 dollars. I now let my dealer advise me on the purchases I am making. He is a very honest person and reminds me of my original goal. You definently will love shopping at a toy soldiershop!

I too have never been in a toy soldier store. I can only imagine what my reaction would be once such wonderful toys surround me. All of my senses would overload and burn out my brain with excess adrenaline, I would have a stroke because I would shake so much with excitement that a blood clot would break loose and travel from some remote part of my body to my pea brain, and I would also have a heart attack due to over stimulation. Ah yes, paramedics and toy soldiers, what a combination for life. ;)

My God Michael! Thats the most graphic description of toy soldier fever i have ever read!!!:D I think i better go get my blood pressure checked now, you've got me worried:D

Maybe they should have appropriate health warnings printed on all K&C boxes. But who can we find to start lobbying the Dept/Ministry of Health ?

I dont have access to a brick & mortar ... but I can imagine the excitement and confusion visisting one for the first time. I guess making a list and visualising needed additions to dioramas will help decide priority purchases.

Honestly I am not really qualified to advise .. as I have been shocked everytime I tally up my shopping cart on internet purchases .

Toy Soldier Fever....LOL....Now I have that song Boogie Fever in my head..:D

Paul Zimmerman used to live around here and used to buy a lot from the local K & C dealer (friend of mine), no longer in business.
