It's The Sahara and Jacgues Malraux, a Vichy French officer strolls past a member of the Vichy French Camel Corps prior to the Allied invasion of November 1942.

Very nice!

The camels are great works of art - my favorite K+C items.

I'm also a great fan of the KC Camels

Great Picture!

Tops on my "Wish they did" list is a SF Trooper- Afghanistan 2001 on Camelback. Those camels are neat- far better in person than in pics.

Chris

Do you know of any photos of the SF in Afghanistan on camels that are online?

Thanks,

Randy

Sorry bud- I have spent time these last couple days and cannot for the life of me seem to find the pictures online that I was talking about- I have seen them in several books and some newspapers but cannot locate them online.

However, not wanting to disappoint, I scored this High Speed Low Drag 82nd ABN (325th Regiment) pulling a patrol on DONKEYBACK:D:D

Not sure if you can do anything with that but, hey, I tried :(

Best Wishes,
CC

I think the Camel figures are among K&C's best sculpts:)
Randy

Agreed.
I've promised myself that I'll get the lying down camel next with the Vichy officer looking at his compass. I'm pretty sure I can convert the Kepi he's wearing to something that'll be more in keeping with an LRDG/SAS display.
Still don't know when I'll be home Randy - probably end of July, but I'll tell you, I've got an itchy camera finger and really want to make some more desert dioramas - and an American Bulge one - and a Flashman one - and....:):). Hopefully I'll be contributing back in the Diorama Section of the forum along with you and the rest of the guys there in around three weeks time.

Cheers

Thanks Chris that's a great shot. If I run across a SF camel picture I'll let you know. Too bad Andy doesn't make some of these:)

Sounds like a plan Harry and look forward to your new dios. When you're home I'd love it if you posted some of those desert background pix that you captured on your trips. They're outstanding. Good to have another sand and snow fan. I think there are lots of us collectors who like those 2 themes. I call us meterological/climatological collectors--actually I think we all have a taste for the exotic. In your case you get to live it.:D

Randy,
The photos you're referring to are on my own laptop which (of course) is back in China. But I'll post them when I get home. Meanwhile please let me know if the ones below which I've found on my company laptop are any good to you. I suspect the resolution might be a bit low though.
I downloaded a trial version of Adobe's Photoshop last night so give me a few days of playing with it and I'll see if I can post any better backdrop pictures.

Best Regards
H

Thanks Harry--3, 5 and 6 look look to be of interest. Where are they?
You'll love photoshop--buy photoshop elements for about $90.00. I'm looking for good shots of palm trees, desert vistas, old Arab buildings, etc-likely on your laptop in China. Did you see the movie the Painted Veil?--beautiful Chinese landscapes in that. Your beautiful desert dios convinced me to wait and buy the STug rather than the Tunisian tiger. I'll likely get the tank riders to put on the Stug.

Randy,
3,5 & 6 were taken in Yemen. I love the rugged landscapes you see there.
Never heard of "The Painted Veil). Thanks for the heads up. Who's in it?
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon has some really evocative Chinese scenery in it. I've been wondering if it might be possible to capture some screen shots from it.
I love the DAK Stug and think its one of the best AFV's available. The Stug and LRDG/SAS were what reawakened my interest in the desert war. If the Panzer IV is to the same standard, and it certainly looks it, then we're onto a winner. I think the posses of the 2 guys wearing steel helmets in the new DAK tank riders set are a wee bit familiar from other sets, but the 2 guys wearing field caps are pretty imaginative.

Harry- love the camel- want to go up and give him a big sloppy kiss!! :D:D

I love this "Road" picture too- the one with the paved path- I can envision a centurion leading his troops up the hill on one of Caesar's conquests.

The road one was scary Chris. This centurion had some dodgy moments driving his troops up and down that road I can tell you. Just to the right of those red/white barriers is what to the jaundiced eye looks like a 1000ft sheer drop into a waddhi. Okay, it can't be 1000ft, more like 200ft, but still frightening enough......!!!

Wow!! Was it really that high!!! I believe it looking at em again- kind of sounds like the Cliffs of Mohr but without all the seawater and 7,000 mile per hour winds

Still don't know when I'll be home Randy - probably end of July,

End of July.... If that's the case, then I'll definitely be able to up the ante on what I collect in 2008....:D:D Dunno if Missus Heid will instigate a manhunt for me though.
I did of course mean end of January....:eek:

Cheers
