Hi everyone, I found a Herrings Romanian set on ebay, and could use some help identifying or any info at all.

I'm a little confused by your description; do you mean that these were made by a manufacturer named Herring? I'd never heard of that maker before, if so.

Prost!

There is an article in the latest Toy Soldier Collector about this brand, but that is as much as I know.

The seller's in Lansdale? That's just down the road a-ways from me, and not too far from my old hometown, Harleysville.

I'm going to follow up on 4th Hussar's tip about the article in "Toy Soldier Collector". I don't recall seeing it, but I'll look for it tonight, when I get home.

Prost!

Hi, guys,

I found the article; actually, it's in the Spring 2008 "Old Toy Soldier".

It doesn't note specifically whether Richard Herring included a set of Rumanian soldiers in his line, but it could be.

Have you talked to the seller, to ask about provenence? I'd be curious to know if he has the original box, for example.

Prost!

Salutations;
I wrote the Herrings articles for both the Spring '07 & '08 Old Toy Soldier issues. Richard Herring produced 13 sets of Herrings Soldiers in the mid to late 70's. The Rumanian Infantry 1916 was his set #3. (Spring "07 OTS has complete set list) He only produced about 1500 sets under the Herrings label so there are probably only about 100-200 sets per production number. I picked up a boxed Rumanian set for about $75 on ebay.
Richard Herring, now in his 80's, went on to produce about 3000 sets under the Richards Soldiers label also in the mid to late 70's.
Hope this helps for any future finds as I know this reply is late for your initial request. Anyone can feel free to contact me regarding any of Richard Herrings work and I'd be happy to share anything I've discovered about these sets.
