Not a bad idea to incentivize soldiers.

It’s funny that they think officers below the rank of LTC are given the best gunners. When I was in we we assigned to a crew and expected to do our best with the gunner who was already assigned to that vehicle. The Colonel of course was given a pretty senior gunner and therefore an advantage but the rest of us did our best with the guys who were already there.
As far as naming our tanks goes it wasn’t something we did during the Cold War it was a color and number assigned so you knew who was who but times change so if the competition of being able to name your beast makes them try harder then great go for it.
