There is an Imperial auction this Saturday the 8th of September. There are four sets of Imperial No. 50d, 30th Lancers (in green) plus one set of 51d, the officer, all in one lot. Anyone like to go in with me? You can have one or two sets of 50d. We would split the costs proportionately.

Hi Mike
I,ll go in with you for a couple of sets if you can be bothered
with the hassle of shipping to NZ .Let me know, I could pay via
paypal or money order.
cheers Rob

Slightly OT, but I am curious how these "pre-bid" auctions actually work.

Have you done any of these before, Mike?

Are you talking about the pweiss ones? They're like Vectis type auctions I believe. You can submit a bid through ebay or participate live as you were a floor bidder.

Rob,

Love to have you. I am just worried about shipping costs to New Zealand. I am also going in with Dan on four sets of Imperial No. 50c 4th Lancers in red. Are you interested in a set?

Drum & Brad,

Yes, I am talking about the PWeiss auction. I have also bid on Vectis auctions. I have lost much more often than I have won, but I have won at least once from each auction house. I have always bid through eBay since I am not sophisticated enough to figure out how to do it on a live-bid basis. I have bid on 14 PWeiss lots for Saturday's auction. I'll let you know how I came out.

Mike,

If you go to the Live Auctions page on ebay and choose the one you want to participate in, you should be able to do it. I've participated in a couple of Vectis auctions that way.

When it gets to the actual bidding, I believe they open up the actual ebay (internet) bids and then proceed along their merry way.

Mike

If you have a set of the 50 c going begging i,d be happy to get one of those aswell .
As i,ve said if posting is too much of a hassle, not to worry [i,m not worried
about shipping costs as i regularly get large hunks of polystone sent from the
US, so i know what i,m in for in terms of shipping ]

cheers Rob

Further to my post, if you go to http://www.ebayliveauctions.com/ and then click "view live" on the auction you're interested. It will then say "click here to participate." Just do that and then follow the instructions and you should be able to bid as if you're a floor bidder. Kind of obviates the need for making ebay bids, especially if you don't want people to know you're interested.

The pweiss auctions aren't on the list because the list only presently go through September 6.

Those Frontline auctions look interesting ;)

Thanks Brad. I just might give it a try. Yes, those Frontline lots do look interesting.

From the looks of the bidders on some of these Frontline auctions, it looks like it will be expensive.

For those who are bidding on these auctions, I went on the website for the auctioneer, www.philipweissauctions.com, and you should be aware that people can submit bids on those auctions in addition to the ones submitted via ebay. I see bids high as $60 so there may be competition from ebay bidders and bidders bidding throught the pweiss system.

I had to go out so I never got a chance to bid on the Frontline. Oh, well. Did anybody from here win anything?

Yes, of the 15 lots I bid on, I won only one. Lot 439 which was three sets of Trophy HLS2 Gordon Highlanders (with red tunics) standing firing. I bid $260; the total price with premium and shipping was $303.20. So I got them for $101 per set versus the $125 per set price at most toy soldier shops.

Two sets of HLS5 Trophy Gordons standing at the ready went for $170 vs. my $160 bid while three sets of HLS3 Gordons kneeling firing went for $210 vs. my $150 bid. Surprisingly, I bid $300 on Sept. 6th on lot 427 which was six sets of Frontline Figures Kyber Rifles route marching. A live floor bidder bid the same amount on the day of the auction (Sept 8th) and won the lot! Boooooooo! So much for first come first serve.

I went to eBay this morning to bid again on lot 432 which was five sets of Imperial No. 50d and 51d - 30th Lancers, but the auction was closed even though it said there were seven hours to go. I was going to increase my bid from $360 to $500, but couldn't. The winning bidder got the sets for $420.
