The thread is a bit dead so I thought I would post re the Imperial catalog project. Drum, what is the latest? Hope all is well.

Dan

Hey Dan,
Sorry that I did not reply to your email. I was expecting to hear from Cowe myself and figured I would respond after I did. A couple of days passed before we talked and I forgot all about replying to you guys.

The first stage of the catalog project is completed. I have taken pictures of every set in our possession and are expecting some of the individual bits that missed their photos (a tea party doll, a puppet-show watching dog, a Grenadier with an injured wrist, etc) from NZ any time.

The next stage, sorting through all of the photos (I took more than 10,000 shots - no kidding) and organizing the best in to a spreadsheet or something similar, has yet to begin.

Then, I will try to come up with some descriptive text that will reveal some interesting little historical or anecdotal information that I have obtained from the folks at Imperial.

Some sets, the Heritage Series sets, some of the band sets and the Rorkes Drift Storehouse are surprisingly difficult to capture in total and I will probably have to re-photograph some of these when my skills improve further or my technology increases.

I will keep you all posted on any developments.

PS: Congrats on your incoming Xmas, Dan!

Hi Drum,

Thats an amazing undertaking. I did something similar but on a much smaller scale with the Britains Durbar display. I used the program microsoft publisher and created a "catelog" with a picture of each item and a space for a small description. If you have this program I would recomend it as you can add pages fairly eadily to your base document. I will send you a copy of the one if you are interested. I also saved it as a PDF file so I could send it and people who dont use publisher can open and view it. Let me know if you are interested in this information. Anything I can do to help you get this important piece of work done just ask.

All the best

Dave

Drum,

I can't wait to see the final product. As always, let me know if I can be of any assistance. I had two very long calls with Cowe this week. He is such a great guy. I'm a bit stunned he finished all my Nap sets so fast. It is very welcome news indeed. He has plenty of creative juice and energy so we should have other stuff to look foward to at some point. I think he is pleased you have taken on this catalog project.

Dan, thanks for the encouragement. I agree, this seems to be meeting with approval and enthusiasm from the Cowes. I hope I can do them proud.

Dave, thanks also for the words of advice and support.
As it happens, I too started with MS Publisher until I recently discovered that files made in Publisher are well neigh impossible to convert easily into the programs that publishers actually use. (Quark and Photoshop).

I am trying to track down a converter program to save the work I have already done, but it is not looking too good so far.

I am also considering the idea of hiring a photoshop/Quark expert to do the layout work. It may be slightly inefficient for me to try and become proficient in this area at the same time as I am trying to do the rest of it. I may just design layout and organize/write the data and then turn it over to a smarter person for making it soup.

Thanks again for the input and I will keep you all posted.

Did you guys learn if Imperial will be coming out with any new sets this year?

Well, it appears far more likely now that certain members of "The Triad" are finally getting caught up.

There ARE rumors afoot...

;)

Drum,

I would be happy to pitch in on the cost if you to hire someone to do the formatting. I think that is a good idea. I'm also anxious to see the final product.

JR, David said he is doing some more casting. He mentioned more Hussars. I put in a plug for Mahdists on camels for the Sudan range.

Hi Drum,

Th best advice I can give is to keep it as simple for you as possible and see if you get get a copy of Adobe Publishing Software. This will allow you to work in nearly any program you are familure and comfortable with then you can convert the file into a PDF format and send it where ever you like. I dont have this software but have friends who do and they seem to like it. I am told its very expensive too but it may be just what you need.

If you want I will be happy to send you a copy of my Durbar catelog just pm me with an email address and I will send it to you.

All the best

Dave
