The unit history in the inner box top lid describes the unit as follows: "Raised in 1838 as an Auxiliary Force, they later became the 4th Irregular Cavalry and during the Scinde campaign 1842-43 were organized into a camel corps with troopers operating in pairs with one riding and the other acting as an infantryman. For their part in this campaign, the regiment earned the 'Scinde' standard or guidon. The regiment was involved at Moultan 1858, during the Mutiny, and later earned the battle honor "Afganistan 1879-80'."
