I have noticed that just about all the Imperial Romans are now retired and unavailable on the FL website. With the success of these figures do you think FL will revisit the Imperials in the future or will that be it for the Imperials all together. I guess I'm asking NAP collectors (since the NAP line is so extensive) to see if FL has ever revisited releases that they have done before. I know there is a lot that has not yet been made but the first round of Imperials were done so well it would be a shame to see it end there.

I would have to think it was just the beginning for sure, I'm sure somewhere there is someone working on more as we speak. As a FL Naps collector, I have seen them revisit one of the main stays of any Napoleonic Collection the iconic French Line with something like 80 different figures. I would just have to think Imperials are gonna be around forever in some form, the hard part is waiting :wink2:. regards Gebhard

I think all across the ranges, there are wants. I myself would love to see the first 10 to 15 of the crusader line. Or more main crusader participants, like the Templars, Hospitalers. And not go of into pieces that can be solitary. The last ones has got me scratching my head. But foremost of the pieces that I would love redone would be Cru-01, the Hospitaler Standard Bearer. And of course the whole line of British First Guards.

I know that views on this are controversial, but I would not mind the legionnaires to be rereleased with (for example) white tunics and the initial crusaders as a different order, say Teutonic Knights.

I would like to see all manufacturers, at times, re-release some of their limited figures in popular ranges just to keep speculators from driving prices up to ridiculous levels...! Keep them guessing... {eek3}

Amen to re-release. The speculators are killing, or at least, seriously hurting the hobby.

Boy is that a fact ..... :mad: :mad: :mad:

I would guess everyone knows THAT certain individual that buys up just about every item on EBay and then turns around sells the piece immediately .... AND the price goes up 2X or 3Xs. The same figure that was just won appears a day later at a ridiculous price. Then it sits and sits and sits with no buyer.

I have NO objection to real collectors buying and selling pieces as their interest changes or they get a better figure. Even dealers who buy a collection and resell is okay since they keep the price reasonable and their customers happy.

Its the few who are speculators that are forcing the prices.
This is really hurting the hobby and driving many of the new folks away (especially the younger ones just getting into the Hobby)

I read that Andy of K&C is re-releasing a popular US Calvary figure (John Wayne) at the Texas Show and he stated that it was (partly) in response to the high prices.

LETS hope that catches on to all manufacturers --- Larry

Hi Larry,
I couldn't agree more but I must admit to being torn over the re-release of earlier lines, but it really seems the only way to stop or at least slowdown this BS. I have had a change of heart recently and I'm know more in favor of re-released figures with repaints as "new" units .. regards Gebhard

Yes, a repaint or different poses for standard bearers or personality figures so that collectors can gain the necessary, missing element in their armies.

This would help put a lid on speculators! :mad:

Got that right buddy.....Speculators drive up secondary market prices and also affect future retail prices..... LEGITIMATE COLLECTORS IT'S VERY SIMPLE : Just Refuse to buy from speculators....BOYCOTT THEM.....and.... ALSO.....Manufacturers should re-release products that collectors are willing to purchase otherwise this hobby will continue to decline and people will BUY LESS.

I have no problem with re - releasing figures to a certain extent. But in the same token I want my figures to retain some value in case that dreaded day comes where I may need to sell. To come out ahead would be great, to break even would be what I hoped to achieve but in the end I would probably lose money especially if the figures were still readily available. What would really be nice in my opinion are some new poses to coincide with the original figures. Same paint scheme, sculpt and scale. With that said I understand the need of those who missed out on the earlier figures and in this case would not be opposed to a limited re - release of the original figures.

Good points, indeed.

I am sure that EVERY COLLECTOR would like to see their figures, vehicles and diorama pieces go up in price. And ... yes that horrible day when you consider "thinning" out the collection arrives, it would ease the pain to break even or even make a profit. [IF I paid $35 for a piece and had it for 10 years and sold it for $35 .... that is a PROFIT ... in my book ..:rolleyes2: ]

As was discussed a while ago on this forum, no one should buy Toy Soldiers as a retirement strategy or sensibly view Toy Soldiers as an alternation to an IRA or 401K plan. However most figures do hold values. First Legion is still a bit new when you compare other "vintage" figures older companies like WBritains, K&C, and many of the Glossy sets manufacturers.

So re-releasing some of the sought after FL "retired" Imperial Roman sets makes sense to me. To re-release a set from 1985 wouldn't ... other than a maybe special commemorative edition or something like that. --- Larry

I don't buy pieces at inflated prices. If I missed something, c'est la vie... Eventually, it has been my experience, the same piece will show up at a show or internet at a reasonable price or some manufacturer will come out with something else that I want and my focus changes... {eek3}

Let the speculators build-up their inventory! {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

I also have no problem at all with re-releases because the value of most collections will either decline or remain at current retail value....Consider yourselves fortunate if a TS figure retains 50-70% of it's original purchase value..... It's EZ to buy products....and....much more difficult to sell products.....Speculators and speculator dealers who engage in these practices only drive up current retail prices and as stated earlier in this thread are ruining this hobby and discouraging new collectors from the hobby....It's called GREED gentlemen..... Certain TS items may increase in value but MOST WILL NOT or bearly retain the retail price.

How about only buying sets you can't live without then you'll never have to worry about it retaining its value because you'll never sell . Just food for thought

Yes, buy and collect only what you enjoy. I agree that values are likely to decline for most pieces along with a decline in the number of future collectors and as more magnificent collections find their way to the marketplace. The hobby is evolving and you can see it in a lot of factors and recent actions by manufacturers. {eek3}

In the past there's been plenty of dealers who used to play games. Wait long enough and the bubble does burst. There's plenty of items around these days that no longer fetch the premium prices of the past. Not least that there's so much choice. There's always something a better price to buy.

I have always been amazed when going to shows, as a young boy I was given items from uncles worn in the war and was hooked. I saved my money and bought Militaria and then started to attend shows. I was always that young guy and thought to myself, man this is a dying Hobby for older gentlemen and sooner or later all that cool stuff that they have collected will be on the market. We all pass on at some point and family members sell our lifelong collections right???. I have learned over the many years those older guys never die they just seem to multiply and you just slowly become one of them and somehow there is always young guys coming along to fill the void. I feel the same way about Toy Soldiers and Shows .. regards Gebhard
