Guys for any of you planning a visit next year or even this year thought I'd give you a heads up.

Today I was lucky enough to get a look at the model for the new WW1 galleries at the Imperial War Museum.....man these are going to be good, Al/Jack if you're reading this you will LOVE THEM!:wink2:^&cool (come to London and I'll show you round my friends)

But I digress. The main points are these. 1. In two weeks time the large exhibits such as Tanks and planes will start to be removed to Duxford for conservation work . This will happen over three months and the Museum will then close altogether after Christmas so building can begin. 2. July 2013 the Museum will then have what they call a ' soft ' reopening. This means it will reopen but with most of aforementioned exhibits still missing but with permanent displays that are not changing still open, so in effect the museum will be open but not nearly as much to see. 3. From July 2013 the exhibits will gradually start to return from Duxford in time for reopen proper in 2014 in time for the Museum to be the centerpiece of British remembarance of WW1 100 years Anniversary in August of 2014.

So my advice to anyone planning a trip to the Imperial War museum is this, unless you are arriving in the next two weeks you might want to suspend your plans, as along with missing exhibits there will be plenty of hoarding up etc. Believe me, if you postpone your visit until summer 2014 you will be VERY glad you did:wink2:{bravo}}

Rob mate,
Thanks for the heads up. Anything new in the Sinai/Palestine campaign?? I would like to see a colour photo of any of the Mk I or Mk IV tanks that were in the second and third battles for Gaza.
Cheers Howard

Hey mate,

Well I expected one of my Australian friends to ask this Howard, so I asked the guy from the team running this refurbishment of the museum and he said there would (along with other countries) be the Australian contribution to final victory running right through the new WW1 gallery. So expect new stuff on the Aussie War especially at Gallipoli.

We can still check the museum out when you come over next year Howard, its just that it won't be fully up and running by then.

Cheers

Rob
