I am a big airborne fan, and I was made an Honorary Member of the 101st Airborne by the members of Easy Co., who I am friends with. I am also a fan of Collectors Showcase new figures. But the Market Garden Paratroopers have the wrong uniform. The uniform they are wearing is from Normandy. It also should have slanted top pockets to be accurate for Normandy. I will leave it at that, and provide more info, if the thread continues. Alex

In my experience there was no standard uniform at any given time or place,I wore a combination of jungle fatigues and the usual type,at times anything I could get,In the combat units forward there was little chance of any replacement items let alone any cleaning etc including beating on a flat rock, the remf types had first choice plus the ability to have a fine look including shined boots,I never went thru a new uniform of the time" situation, just as weapons werent all of one type, bowieknives, tomahawks etc were common, there was an attempt to tighten things about the time I left.

I agree with the Lieftenant from the 24th.;) However, if you have good reason to question this, why not share your sources?

Actually this was discussed before ( http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/for...ad.php?t=10253 ) and it does seem some companies actually did have the M1942 Jump Uniform on during the jump in Holland. One of which was the 504th.

This uniform was optimal so collectors could mulit-purpose the figures for either Normandy or Holland: pretty cool huh?:)

Anyhow you are obviously are an astute collector and should be " Kudo "'d anyhow for your keen eye and interest in this fascinating period of the liberation of Europe.

Best regards,

Brian

It's no big deal, but they are wrong. The 1943 uniforms were the standard for Market Garden. The Paratroopers felt they lost their distinction, and they did not like the 1943 uniforms. I know some 1942 uniforms were worn, but they were the exception not the rule. I will use these Paratroopers in a Normandy scene. Remember the 1942 uniforms depicted in this set, should have slanted top pockets to be accurate for the 1942 style, but we can let that go also. Alex

...the remf types had first choice plus the ability to have a fine look including shined boots...

From Mauldin, "Garritroopers, we called 'em, too far forward to wear ties, and too far back to get shot."

From the photos, I can see one of my standard nitpicks. The M1A1 Carbines have the Barrel band with the attached bayonet lug. This modification to the carbine was not addopted until after Market Garden and was probably only seen on carbines at the very end of the war in Europe, if at all. Highly unlikely to see it on an M1A1 Carbiine, even then. By Korea, pretty much all Carbines had them, having gone through arsenal rebuild after WWII.

Second standard Carbine gripe -- they are much too big.

Good eye. I find manufacturers get away with all kinds of errors on weapons and nobody calls them on it. It seems the only place some people look for quality in a toy soldier is the painting of the face - well sorry, that's just one aspect of a well done figure. That said, I generally find Collector's Showcase weapons to be much better proportioned and finely detailed compared to K&Cs or Figartis weapons, which sometimes look downright atrocious. In particular Kar-98 rifles and mg-34/42 machine guns are just butchered by certain manufacturers.

Good eye guys....... This is supposed to be a hobby of Toy Soldiers, and the word Toy, seems to grant some lee way in accuracy. Battle Scene Productions has always challenged the Manufacturers to make things as realistic as possible. Coming from the highly detailed and accurate 1/35th scale world, I switched to the Toy Soldier world, because I didn't want to build and paint any more. For the most part, all of the Manufacturers have done a good job, and I applaud them for that.

So I point out inaccuracies to help them improve. The 1/35th scale market is vast, and our Web Site is geared to bring in some of that crowd, and to help expand this hobby. The eyes of the baby boomers are not what they used to be, and pre painted figures and vehicles are a joy, compared to the tedious hours spent having to build 1/35th scale plastic models. Although we obviously still like doing dioramas, which are larger projects and easier to see :) Alex

So its OK to buy some of these CS paratroopers? And are they true to 1/30 or more 1/32?

They are 1/30th, and the represent Normandy. The top pockets should be slanted, but it is not a big deal. King and Country did a nice job also, but they put an American flag on the 101st Airborne uniform, which they did not wear at Normandy. Conte actually has some pretty good paratroopers also, For Normandy, the uniforms are a little dark and the pockets are not slanted. For Market Garden, they are not wearing the right boots and they have the wrong style flag on the shoulder. Conte is 1/32. Alex
