Maybe it is just me! But it seems as of late, that with every new release from all companies, prices are starting to skyrocket. It seems that the writing is on the wall, that $200 is going to be the going price for a tank release. Figarti has done a wonderful job with it's pending new Winter Panzer and the U.S. Long Tom, but lets face it, the Long Tom is really going to need those extra figures and 155mm shell crates to look authentic. That will mean an extra $100 on top of the $200, for the Gun. That is a $300.00 investment. If this trend continues, I have no choice but to buy less and be more selective about what new releases to consider. Does anybody else on this forum feel the same way?

Steel Wheels, I agree with your argument that prices are increasing. Taken as a whole, $300 for the entire grouping seems like a lot for one grouping. And $300 is a good sum of money for a model. However, I don't agree with the method you used to present your example. My arguments are these:
1) The Long Tom comes with a large artillery piece and 4 figures. If you value the four figures at $25 per and the gun at $100, that makes the set, actually two sets, seem more reasonable.
2) The additional 4 men and the ammo pieces do add another $100. But if you place a value of $20 for the ammo pieces (there are what appears to me to be four ammo pieces) and divide the remaining $80 among the men. That's $20 per figure.

So, for $300 you get, I believe, good value for the money. Also, the Panzer IV does have a stand-alone figure. Give him a value of something between $20 and $25 and that moves the tank price to something less than $179 to $174. It appears to me that the workmanship in both items bear out the additional cost difference between the Figarti and any other makers tanks, including K&C. But I still like K&C best. I am just so loyal it is almost a personality disorder but not quite...I hope..Shannon..ehlp..hepl.....aw crap..

The Figarti Panzer IV has a lot of detail from the description posted by Rick: Three of the hatches can be opened and closed ... the armored side skirts are separate pieces ... the boogie wheels are all individual pieces ... real metal barrel ... etc. Colllectors should realize that all this detail requires more labor than a cast piece.:)

I agree SW. I realised around Christmas that I need to be more selective with what I add to my collection. While I like a lot of what I see on the different manufacturers and various dealers websites, I've narrowed my collecting down to just a few favourite ranges in an attempt to get things under control. It means I'll be passing on, for example, most of Figarti's new releases (excluding their forthcoming 1/30 scale LRDG Chevy's of course), K&C's WWI range which I do think is excellent, Britains new Zulu War range, etc. Its a shame, but that's the way its going to be from now on.

Cheers

I would suggest immediately halving the food rations of all the slave laborers followed by regular beatings by the camp gaurds.
This should keep prices down.
:):)
This is a joke guys.

I have it on good authority that these measures have already been put into action, but still the prices creep up. The grim, bleak, ill-lit, freezing and satanic factories will just have to lower the minimum working age from 12 down to 8, and feed them gruel. How else will the filthy running dogs of factory owners be able to continue basking in their quasi-western lifestyles in exchange for selling their souls to their capitalist masters..??
:eek::eek:
This also is a joke guys (perhaps).

In Canada, it is the contrary. It is cheaper than ever to collect.

When I started collecting in 2004, 1,00$CDN was worthing 0,60$US and the taxes were 16,65%.

Today, 1,00$CDN worths more than 1,00$US and the taxes are 12,87%.

Useless to say that it is time to buy.

Pierre.
