Industrial espionage (1 Viewer)

:DLOL, I surely hope not. This quote seems to say it all:
"The sudden emergence of Bratz was seen in apocalyptic terms by Mattel management as Barbie sales withered"

That's a billion dollar industry; that's the difference.

Barbie has a track record. She has been around for 50 years. Bratz are just a flash in the pan.

I am sure we do not behave like this in the toy soldier world

Actually, if you go back to the early days of Britains, up to the First World War, and after, you'll find cases of accusations of copyright infringement lodged against the smaller competitors, some of whom were more or less small, fly-by-night operations. I think there are similar stories to be found among some of the American dimestore manufacturers-didn't Jones accuse his competitors, too, of trying to drive him out of business?

In our time, you can find copies of Ulrich Puchala's 54mm Prussian figures, painted and finished, in another manufacturer's current catalog, not sure if they are licensed copies or not, but if they are, that isn't noted. And there are sellers on eBay who sell solid copies of Britains, as well as copies of Imrie-Risley and Tradition.

If there is a buck to be made, some will try to make it, with fewer scruples than others might have.

Prost!
