Guys, I received the following postcard from a used book dealer when I ordered a book from them. It appears to be from a series of AWI postcards, as I have found other images on the net of the same style. Has anyone seen these before and if so, where can get more of the series? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Noah,

That postcard is by Clyde A Risley of Imrie-Risley.

I'm pretty sure others can tell you more.

Hi There,

I have several others in storage right now that I picked up at various places in New England. I recall getting them at Places like Sturbridge and at the shops around the Saratoga Battlefield. If I can find them I will scan and post.

Why not ask the bookseller??

I have, but he had never answered by inquiries. Maybe I have to buy another book.....

Scott and Dave, I appreciate the info. That gives me a start in tracking them down.

Scott is correct, that is a watercolor illustration that Clyde did. The images were available in various forms. For example, your postcard is from a series that used his illustrations. Also, the prints were included, in a postcard size, in the Imrie-Risley kits as painting guides. I think that the Company of Military Historians also distributed the series in a larger format, suitable for framing (like the Lefferts prints).

I checked the website, www.saratogasoldier.com, and there's no explicit listing for any of the postcards/painting guides. But it might be worth it to contact I/R and ask. If you go to the website, click the Contact link. You might even get a reply from Mrs. Imrie herself.

Prost!

Thanks Brad. That gives me another good lead to chase down.

Hi Guys,

I have 5 of these post cards in hand now and they have a small number on the back that seems to indicate the number of the card in a series. I have 2,3,4,8 and 18. So I would guess that there are at least 20 postcards in the set if not more. I will try and scan them in in the next few days.

Dave, I would love to see them if you get a chance to post the pics. Since you mentioned it, I have noticed a small number 4 in the upper left on the the back of the card. If you are right and there are 20 or so of these, that would make an impressive collection to display if a guy could track them down.

The numbers may correspond to the figure's catalog number in the I/R catalog, too.

These were also sold in small sets in a window style folder sized to the cards at various sites in the 1970s. I recall two different sets and I have them around here somewhere. One of my favorite cards was the 38th Regiment of Foot light company... I also recall a 5th Foot figure.
One of my good friends had a few (perhaps 4) in a larger format, close to 8 1/2 " X 11"

I have to check my postcard stash, too, I may have some. Actually, this reminds me of a long-term project to scan my cards and make them available to everyone, here and on some other forums I belong to.

Prost!

Hi Guys,

Well what Ken says certainly fits with what I can remember from my class trip to the Saratoga Battlefield back in 1976. I have five of these cards that I am certain I bought as a group. I have a few other Military Uniform cards here somewhere so I will have to see if I have any others. Who knows maybe someone here has a whole set. I would certainly like to know what the numbers on the back of the cards mean.

I'd email I/R via their website and see if they have more info about the illustrations as postcards. They might even still be available, too.

Prost!

I just got a set of these in the mail, after winning them on an E-bay auction. They are numbers 11-20 and came in a soft sleeve, which is marked 'Set Number 2'. One of the cards has already been posted by Dave, but I will try take some pictures of the others.

Really cool thing was that the set only cost $4.25 shipped!
