Hi.

In the last few months a bevy of Byzantine figures have appeared on ebay. I have been purchasing a number of them from SPB Souvenirs.

I asked about the manufacturer of the figures and was told, in confusing English, that the maker was Miles Publius.

Do the Russian collectors have any knowledge of this company?

Is the manufacturer Miles Publius or SPB Souvenirs?

I am asking this so that my records are accurate.

Here is the address: http://soldatikov.net/en/barbarians-vikings/873-normannskij-rycar-xi-vek.html

Thanks,

I am not sure (just wanted to respond so you knew your message was seen)

SPB Souvenirs is a souvenir shop.
He buys castings, then give them to a few painters who work from their home.
There are no real studios.
He was advertising searching for painters.
Hope it helps
Alex

Alex,

Thanks for the information.

Do you happen to know if the source for the castings was called Publius or Miles Publius?

I tried to find out on my own but had no luck.

I would appreciate any help.

Google is our friend.

A search on "miles publius miniatures" (I'm hearing "mee-lays poo-blee-oos", by the way, if it's intended to be in the original Latin) produced a number of pages, include what are probably the eBay listings you saw, Mike. This one pretty much has the same info as Igor provided:

http://en.spbsouvenir.ru/magazin/vendor/handwork-by-spbsouvenir-on-unpainted-model-of-miles-publius.

and if we scroll down in the menu at the left, on that page, we see an entry for Miles Publius, which goes to this catalog page:

http://en.spbsouvenir.ru/magazin/folder/15-miles-publius

I didn't see any more info about the provenance, though, not at a quick glance.

Hope that helps, prosit!
Brad
