Inventory Software, Insuring your collection (1 Viewer)

It's time I got serious about knowing what I have, can any of you guys recommend an Inventory program you like for tracking your K&C collections?
Also I am thinking about talking to my insurance agent to get a rider to my policy to cover the collection, any experience there?

I use Excel for my inventory. If you notice at the bottom it has each series as a worksheet. I just click on the series I want to check my inventory.

I just have a plain ole list in Word that I use. Nothing fancy, but it does the trick.
 
I'm like Brad, I have a list on Word. I got my collection appraised and insured it (its called fine arts insurance). As valuable as these items are getting, if you have a sizeable collection, you are crazy if you don't insure it.
 
I too use Word. I grab a picture of the figure or set from a variety of dealer sites, depends on which one has the best picture but I tend to use the K&C home page, and inport it to the Word document. I then size the picture so that I can get columns of two on each page. I then type in the name/number and price for each set under its respective picture. I then leave enough space between pictures and information to add notes if I desire. It looks a lot like Alexdakar's Excel page.

I had my home owners insurance agent over one day and had her evaluate the best insurance for my needs. I got a rider on my policy that provides$75,000 for replacement costs, I think it's name is the same as Louis' - "Fine Arts." The agent and I choose the amount based on our best estimate. You can get insurance up to any amount the company is willing to cover. This is in addition to the policy' replacement coverage for household items such as furniture and personal items.

I periodically video tape the interior of my home and place the tape in a safety deposit box. This way I have evidence of existance for the items I would claim. I also keep a copy of the Word program on disc in the safety box as well.

I think it is a good idea to have your agent visit your home to verify your stuff and to have them match the best insurance coverage that you can either afford or obtain. For some of us an appraisal is very difficult to obtain due to the distance we live from anyone qualified to be able to write the appraisal and have the credentials to back it up. But, my final advise to everyone who collects - have adequate insurance cover for your investment. While you more than likely will not be able to replace each item, at least you can begin anew. :) Michael

Thanks so much for your imput, I am going to try the word document method, thou I've never worked in word before, I'll figure it out.

I use a program called "321 COLLECT" it's a Excel based program that already setup and does allow you some modifications

Can you tell me who produces "123 COLLECT" and can you suggest a possible source for purchasing it? Does it allow for inclusion of photographs of your collection so one might document the figures in each set?

buttuming you are relatively satisfied with the program, are there any downsides or disappointments you have experienced with it? Any additional feedback you can provide concerning your use of 123 COLLECT will be greatly appreciated!
