Hello to all:

I received my first CS set this week. I purchased the two OIF 3RD ID figures. Here are my impressions:

These figures are very gritty and realistic looking- they are as ugly as the mean streets of Baghdad- this is an ugly war these guys are fighting and they look perfect in that regards. These aren't your spit and polished glossies ready to go parading around- no sir, these guys are taking the fight straight to Saddam's boys and they ain't taking prisoners.

The weapons and battle rattle is all spot on. One figure from each set had paint rub off from them. They were an easy touch up.

ONE MAJOR DISAPOINTMENT- the 3rd ID division patches were RED!! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!! MAJOR MAJOR bluder here- just unforgivable. Four blue stripes in a square- doesn't seem too hard to get- definately stepped on it here.

All said and done, at 1/28th scale, they aren't going to pose up with your KC figures side by side. I believe the Javelin team will pose easier as they are squatting and can be positioned behind a building or what not. The three running grunts will be a bit more trickier. Still, I'm up to the challenge. I think what I am going to do is "lift" the KC Iraqi tank up and rest it on top of a sandbagged base so that the tank doesn't look hull down but in an improved fighting position.

All in all, if you are a collector of modern figures, might want to grab the javelin team. They aren't bad figures at all, just the sizes make them a little difficult to dio up. Still, if you are creative it can be done.

STANDS ALONE!!

Hey Chris,
Please post some photos of any set ups you do. Glad they arrived with only flesh wounds.
BTW, I've got a couple of McFarlanes waiting at the Postal depot to be picked up later on. Looks like another fine mess you've got me in to Stanley:rolleyes::D

RED? Was that just a limited error on a few sets or all of them? Are you going to try and repaint? 3ID Marne Dogs, one of the most famous American divisions, not sure how the patch went wrong, hope you can fix it. Kind of like having a green swastika on your panzer:eek:.

Not sure why this didn't occur to me earlier: could it be that instead of mistaking the 3rd ID patch colour, CS were trying to depict a subdued or desertised varient of the insignia?? Had a quick Google for photos of 3rd Inf. personnel from the period these figures are meant to represent (March/April 2003) and most soldiers pictured in the field do seem to be wearing a brown/red version of the divisional patch. Have a quick squint at the link below:

Thanks Mr. Molloy, you nailed it: the above is correct. We found subdued patches to be almost universal in our photo reference hunt.

Brian
