Just wondering if you noticed in the past year or so when dealing with people on E-Bay or the net when it comes to business ie: adding to your collection etc... the sellers can be rude, short, abrupt and anything else you can think of....I have been on both sides of the fence and I find that when dealing with people either on the net or in person there is NOOOOOO customer service trying to sell their product, all they want is your money no questions no complaints or comments...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've noticed that more and more people are opting for paypal payments only, I refuse to get a paypal account.

Also, since I pay by personal check, people are sticking to the ten working days bit before they mail the item, even though my check has already cleared the bank.

I have to be honest I like PAYPAL...I just meant their attitudes in general.

That's because people want instant payment. I process hundreds of PayPal transactions a week through my business with no problems. PayPal is the safest way to pay on the internet.

I think people who bid on ebay - dont read the rules of that particular auction - by in large - thus cause sellers to be cranky. Paypal is the best way for seller and buyer IMO.

Once in a while I forget to read the payment requirements. But , not often any more.

Here is an example a guy is selling an antique sword.....I ask him if he guarantees it to be original, pre 1815...the response I get back is "if you are unsure perhaps you shouldn't bid", even though the sword is most likely original its still a question that needs to be asked and yet standing behind their item or explanning why its orignal is over looked. I once asked this question of a person who blocked me from bidding because of it.

maybe it wasn't genuine;) ,if it was genuine you would expect him to enthusiastically say why it thought it was so!
If seller wasn't sure whether it was 100% genuine or not then probably a repro

Unfortunately anyone can sell on Ebay.....so you never know who you are dealing with. As an Ebay veteran of nearly 10 years now I am quick to answer any questions sent to me on my items. I do not get offended, send what ever additional pictures and information requested. If anyone gets smart or short with you I would suggest you move on. More then likely they are not comfortable with the item they are selling......or withholding something.

Of course I have had a few "problem buyers" so I never use the word "Mint" which I find to be the most misused word in the english language! Even an item I would classify as mint will only rate a "like new" because most of the items I deal with......even when Brand New were not meant for the Museum of Fine Art........they were childrens toys........or items designed to be enjoyed.

A lot of people dislike Paypal.......why because of the fees..........I usually wind up paying them several thousand dollars a year........and this is just my hobby. However they are reliable, efficient, and can easily be reached by phone so you just can't beat them as a payment option!

As long as you don't rely on their "Buyer Protection" you will be fine!

It never fails to surprise me how difficult some businesses - large and small - make it to accept your money. Customer service is virtually non-existent in most situations because the person that you are often dealing with has no stake in whether your problem/question is resolved. In fact just the opposite - they just want you to go away. They are salaried employees with little training who hear nothing but complaints all day. It may be a little different with ebay folks running their own business but many lack common sense or don't expect any repeat business - so they don't care if you have a bad experience. Also the internet often lends itself to rudeness since communications are largely impersonal and anonymous.

I answer questions as I receive them. Lately, though, the eBay message system doesn't seem to fit through my spam filters.

On the issue of PayPal - I preffer it. It is integrated into the eBay selling panel which lets me see what is waiting for shipping, then generates the shipping label in an easy to use web panel. It is worth the fees vs me driving to the bank, getting line and depositing money orders and checks. The only problem I've been having with PayPal is their e-check system. It lets me know an echeck has been submitted but not when it clears and it doesn't update the ebay item page. I get a lot of paypal payments every day from my website and from ebay so following up on a single echeck it really hard.

I tend not to accept personal checks except from a very few who I have a very long history with. Selling in volume makes managing a lot of personal check difficult. If I sold in smaller quantities I would probably accept them again.

And to the rudeness factor - that sucks. But on the other hand, I think a lot of dealers have been getting hammered lately on all sorts of issues and questions. For example, I have been dealing with a lot of very unpleasant people in Canada - so muxh so that I ask most bidders from Canada to contact me prior to bidding. One Canadian guy actually said "when your dollar falls so low that you can't buy a loaf of bread and you're sitting in the cold because you can't afford heat, then we Canadians will take pity on you and maybe help bail you out." This was due to a shipping quote error on an auction. Another guy called me to pay for an item and asked where we were located and I said Brooklyn, he called me a crook and hung up. Other things have happened too.

Other than that, a potential customer has every right to try to determine the authenticity of an item and as k what they need to ask including a guaranty. I always encourage people to ask questions if they need to.

Whew.

I apprciate al the comments guys...I'm not new to E-Bay I have been a member for at least 12 years...I've just noticed a change in it over the years.
