Bayern less than a week ago put up a complaint about the K & C soldier do you know what on a picture of Hitler, now he starts a thread Fourth of july tribute thread!!! Happy fourth america!!

An era in which my family lost many members and also land which we received no payment for or retribution. In this time when one group of Europeans were fighting against another group of Europeans for a deserved freedom, there were a lot of bad things done on both sides, but i am willing to accept it is an interesting era for our hobby and do not mind figures etc. but what i mind is someone complaining about threads and figures that upset them but then less than a week later put up a thread being happy to celebrate the misfortune of others. As he did we too lost things and have NOTHING left to show and/or commemorate from that time - unlike him.

You raise an interesting point. The general opinion about not insulting Hitler is as laughable as it is absurd. However what worries me even more is that in the last week there has been two incidents in which blatantly racist terms for African Americans have been used here on the forum and have not been met with sanctions, this is an outrage.

I do not have strong feelings about the AWI however, not only was it a very very very long time ago but half my family is American so I'm very fond of America and its people. I've visited America four times now and having met so many nice people here and face to face in America I wish them only the best.

As this thread will have a life span of a moth I will add my agreement with Rob now, to find an insult to one of history's worst human beings considered bad taste was just taking pc to far.
Wayne.

Well said Wayne.

When you add together outrage at people insulting Hitler AND archaic terminology for other races, it leaves an obvious and dark impression.

thanks

agree with you, I love going to the US, it is by far my favorite of the 'Colonies', lucky enough to go often [love the price of K & C there as well]. It is shear hypocrisy of it that i do not like, i can see why the tommy figure could be offensive, but my relatives who fought in WW2always said we were the ones that did not start it but we sure ended it, then there is the Bomber harris quote that always comes to mind which is used by one of our forum friends. Ridicule is one of the ways we make bullies and dictators look stupid [Chaplin for example in the Great Dictator] and i support that.

to finish there is also a double standard of the Treefrog forum, they take off the thread but still sell the figure!

I would like to use this thread to sincerely wish our American friends, cousins and allies all the best for tomorrow:smile2:

The Americans I've met are nothing but decent, honest, open friendly and generous.

Lets turn this thread into something good that does not have to be deleted again.

So to all my US friends on here, have a great day and try not to think too badly of the old country:wink2:

Moth - thank you for wishing in Longevity, i would have more of snowball chance in in Hell or Money in my pocket when in a shop selling K & C.

It just had to be said. Interesting comment from a young relative of mine when looking at the Declaration of Independence, oh from the mouths of the innocent and young.

"Why does it not ethnic minoroities of women?"
Niece age 13.

Just to confirm i do like the USA and Americans, but can also see the faults as i do with both my own Country and also Megan Fox, fault with Megan is 'she never calls',
Well said Wayne.

Just to agree with Rob, hope you all have a great time, know I did when i was there during this time of year previously.

i have already had a number of emails from American friends on the subject.

America is a place of contrast, on the one hand their Chocolate bars are repulsive, on the other they make the best Cheescake in the world :wink2:^&grin

I don't think it's hypocrisy, necessarily. He can be proud of being of German descent (even to the point of being offended by the K&C piece, with which issue I don't agree), and still celebrate the independence of our country, which, I must point out, is not generally considered to be celebrating the misfortune of others. That is not to say that there have been winners and losers as this country was founded, but it is a net good that it was founded.

Prost!
