After Derna and Sirte, Isis has taken Sabratha, an UNESCO site and a lybian town which gave the name to the ww2 italian division " Sabratha"( this division resisted at El Alamein, but the losses were so big that it was dismissed on july the 25th 1943).They are moving more and more western on the Lybian coast, direction Tripoli.Just like the british army during the italian retreat, before the Afrika Korps had landed.
I am not a nostalgic colonialist at all, but maybe it was better before..... And I would like Rommel back, he would resolve the matter in a short time{sm4}

Poppo that's so worrying for the safety of the ancient site, given the damage they have caused in their wake in Syria. Because I'm quite keen on ancient history I've been to Libya as well as Syria and know some of the treasures in the way of sites and museums both these countries process.

Right, there are many roman munuments in Lybia...Even worst, they are coming closer and closer to Europe and to the italian coasts, in fact Lybia is very close to Sicily....And if they land, they will not be stopped by the italian army, but by the mafia!( this is a joke only for half...)

Poppo, yep, plenty of Roman sites Cyrene, Leptis Magna, Sabratha and so on, in fact have a look at some of the photos I took in Libya back in 2007 for things if not already destroyed then on list of Daesh:

Some may recognise the theatre from the British 1950's film "The Black Tent".

Poppo, I'll have to share with you some photos I took of Italian & British AFV's at the El Alamein museum.
