Hello Forum Members,
Although the release date is not yet known (and may be 3-4 months or more away) I do like to give you a heads up when any major changes occur on the board.
There has been a major forum software overhaul in the works by VBulletin in development for the past year and they are beginning to share some screen shots of what the changes are likely to be. Obviously we can customize things to keep the look of the Treefrog forum but things will look different.
Periodically I will post an update about the upcoming version focusing on what improvements will be made etc. and I thought I'd start with the one that looked like the most obvious improvement of what I've seen: the Member Profile Page.
Here is a screen shot of what they are proposing:

As you can see, more information is available all in one place in a very easy on the eyes format.
There are no guarantees that this is the final Member Profile page layout but I liked the look of it and wanted to share with you what they are proposing.

As I mentioned above, there is no set official release date for the new version so for now this is purely an informational FYI post and I don't have a lot more to tell you beyond this yet.
I'd be interested to hear your comments.
Stay tuned!

Well, you can't stop progress. Does have a nice feel to it however.

That's the nature of the software business, the pace of change is much quicker.

I hope it works as well as the current version does. I think Shannon makes good use of the features that vBulletin has in this app. There are other sites that use the same product, but they don't have things configured the same way, as to make the same functionality available, as we have here. Functionality to show/hide threads, for example, and what displays in the search lists. We have a pretty convenient collection of functions enabled, that some other sites don't seem to configure.

Well, thanks for the heads-up, prosit!

Still, I get the sense, that at least in some ways, you would like to stop 'progress.':)

At least some of it.

Change CAN be tiresome at times.

Oh by the way Shannon good luck on revamping the site  :D

Russell,

You are indeed correct. Give the man a glossy figure :D

Sometimes I feel that the software people keep changing things just for the sake of change.

Change to improve is one thing.Change just to change is a pain.I have Comcast internet and everytime you look they are
changing things. The bad thing is it doesn't seem to improve things. In fact a lot of times it makes things worse. What's the old saying. If it ain't broke don't fix it.I'm sure a lot of people, especially younger people welcome change, but I'm not one of them.

I don't mind a little change...but like Mark says...not for the sake of changing...I personally love this site the way it is...do me a favor...keep it simple...there are a lot of old fuddy duddies like me on here that aren't too computer literate, hehehe.

I share your "down to earth" sentiments on change.

If there must be a change, let it be for the better.

Like all things, there must be a justification for change as there is a cost involved.

Best Wishes, Raymond.

Michael,

Well said. "Keep it Simple."

From another fuddy duddy,

Best Wishes, Raymond.

Change is inevitable; it's a fact of life and you need to embrace it.

Sorry to disagee Brad but this country has changed a great deal in the last 30 years and most of it not for the good.

The upgrade is now available, however from what I've read Internet Explorer (IE) sometimes has issues with it. Since I'm sure a lot of our members (including us!) use IE as their browsing platform, I plan to hang tight and let them work the issue out first rather than risk having our members not be able to access the Treefrog Forum.

Carry on as you were...;)

Bless you for that. My "issues" with IE go way back and are legion.

If possible I would like to request that the search function permit finding 3 letter words, like "GNM", which currently does not seem possible. The way the find function works in IE for example is a model of a most flexible letter search function.

Another non TS forum I regularly contribute had a major upgrade and members had varying issues with it, such as which browser works best with the new software and so on. It's taken a couple of weeks to sort but was for the better. Has a nicer look and feel. It campn also tie into Facebook, which is an interesting option.

IE v8 has been a problem since I installed it more than a year ago.

Just before Christmas, the IE v8 started to really act up and web pages just could not display properly.

The web pages that could not load included CNN, eBay, CGA and Treefrog Forum, just to mention a few.

I have since un-installed IE v8 and have temporarily reverted to IE v6.

IE v6 is working well with the web pages loading OK, but much slower.

I have not figured out what the problem is.

Anyone have any answers?

Thanks, Raymond.

The above is the kind of problems that you may run into when an upgrade happens.
