Have you ever noticed that our figures, vehicles, and scenery travel the world and stay mint in box. Personally I have sold off or traded many sets that when I originally purchased them I had great plans for them. But, new lines come out and space starts to become a problem. Also the dreaded taking on too many lines and manufacturers creates a surplus of odd sets.
So the solution is to narrow the scope of the lines and sell off sets that are languishing in the closet to buy the newer stuff. I think this is why we see so many limited and rare sets appear for sale never removed from box. I still find figures I don't remember buying.
Now if the manufactures will stop making so many nice new sets and lines:(

Interesting perspective which I have no doubt is well shared. Personally I wouldn't buy anything I did not remove from the box because for me the whole point is enjoying viewing them from all sides and with their mates.;):D

I have always had a time understanding why collectors buy things and keep them squirreled away in boxes. How can you enjoy them?

I can't wait to get them out of the box!

Me neither, but I understand that when there is no more room, what is one going to do? Stop playing the collecting game, buying new stuff all together? Probably some people keep a lot of new things in box hoping to rotate or some day find the room, till they find out...the hard truth:(...

It also depends on how long you have been collecting. You can only display

so much stuff! This is also "Andy's Fault":D since he continues making items

many of us must have for our collections! Let me also mention Rick from

Figarti, and the many other manufacters and designers such as Ken Osen who

continue to produce top quality items.

I have quite a few items opened only for inspection. Most of the time

I put at least one on display, some favorite items such as the Polizei Armoured

Car I have several out in displays. Others wait their turn in displays thought

of but not produced for one reason or another......usually space!

Then along comes more new items.......and diorama possibilities.......:D

I think that sometimes people buy things on impulse and then when they get home reality sets in that there is no room to display it. For example I have a mint in box Shores of Tripoli set by Barzso, I have never broken the seal. Why did I buy it? It seemed like a good idea at the time and in the back of my mind I knew that Barszo sets have a decent resale value. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

All of my sets come out of the box and are displayed. When I ran out of room, I began using different combinations in different dioramas and scenarios. As new items come out, like the LCA and Canadian soldiers, they become the focal point of a new diorama with some of the older pieces.

I like to think of it as a living collection with items moving in and out of their boxes.

All my stuff comes out of its boxes and the boxes go in the loft, its funny how different methods work for different collectors but i love having my stuff altogether and on show.
