There is a drama called 'My boy Jack',the story of Rudyard Kiplings son who was killed on his first day of action at the Battle of Loos, and of the families long search for him.Stars Daniel sutcliffe (Harry Potter)and Kim Cattrall.Looks like it might be good.It coincides with an exhibition of the same name we have opening at the Imperial War Museum.

What a tragc life Kipling led. His "most beloved" daughter died at the age of 6, and his son was killed on his first day in combat. When you read some of his poems in the "Just So" stories, you get a sensation of the depth of his loss when his daughter passed away. I couldn't even imagine. If I lost my most beloved Alec and Ashley, I would throw myself under a bus.

Absolutely, and when you think that Rudyard encouraged and helped his son get into the army after he was refused on medical grounds,he must have been devastated.

This sounds really interesting Rob. Kipling happens to be one of my favourite authors. Any chance of sending some info from the newspapers on this programme?

Cheers

Kipling and George MacDonald Frasier are my two favorite authors. You continue to demonstrate uncannily good taste, Harry.

He is one of the greats Louis. I have a 1st edition of the Phantom Rickshaw. One of my favorite books of all time.

Interesting program.........although more about them as a family opposed to the war itself.......mind gave a very good depiction of life on th efront line against life at home for the familys.
