This is the set of two navy corpmen helping two wounded marines. I just purchased this set and in examining them found that the underside of the base is diestamped "D-DAY WWII" Does any one know if these were originally slated to be D-Day figures? This may be a common occurance, but the Coin Collector in me says, "its a rare die error" making the pieces priceless!! (humor) Louis, do you have anything in your upcoming book about this?

IWJ 012 and DD 11 are essentially the same, just different theatres. I'm not sure it's really worth anything more because of the error. In fact, the IWJ version is not worth as much as the DD version.

Hi Guys,

No big mystery we produced our Navy Corpsmen for the Marines and in a different GI paint version for D.Day...Simple as that.

Best wishes and happy collecting!

Ask and you shall receive. A quote from the book:

"IWJ12, “Wounded Marines”, consists of two navy corpsmen assisting two wounded marines. The figures are the D-day medics and wounded from the Dodge Ambulance and Medic sets, refinished into Pacific theater uniforms. This set originally retailed for $79."

The Rough Riders (RR) and 7th Cavalry (TW) have something similar, and all the 1997/98 Afrika Korps (AK) were just Waffen SS (WS) repaints. It's a common occurrence in early K&C matte sets, getting the most castings possible from the moulds. I'd say Louis has a chapter on it all.

The same goes for the soldier helping the wounded soldier in the AN 02 Fighting Withdrawal set and RR 18, Medic and Wounded Roughrider.
