Flags of Fathers is an excellent book, I read it several years ago when it first came out and highly recommend it. Bradley's next book Flyboys is also very good.
My wife told me she won't allow any of the Japanese soldier figures in our home because of their mistreatment of POW and civilians. LAH is not allowed either. I can live with those rules, there's plenty of other great series to collect.

I bought the "Flag" book for my collection. Very well written. Flyboy book I got from library and read it but did not purchase it- cannabilism reasons. John
 
I had the pleasure of meeting Father Bradley who is mentioned in Flags of our Fathers (No relation to the flag raiser). He told some incredible stories. He shot two Japs while bringing a wounded man to the aid station at night. I asked him, Chaplains didn't carry guns, he just smiled. This may sound hard to believe, but when I told him I had served as a Firefighter at Ground Zero, he blessed me with the equipment he used to annoint the dead and wounded on Iwo. My knees almost buckled, and tears came to my eyes, he told me to carry on with my work of helping to protect the citizens of our country. He died about three months later......Check the web site www.veteranshistory.org he is on there. His family room in the rectory was filled with hundreds of pictures from Iwo, His dog was named Iwo....What an outstanding man.

Thanks for posting the link to the veterans website. It's quite a site. It is great to see that there is such an effort being put forth to record the experiences of these fine veterans. These oral histories are priceless. As was your experience with Father Bradley. What an honor it must have been for you.

I was reading the Pacific War series being done for HBO by Spielberg and Hanks and nothing is being done. Other then writing some scripts, HBO does not want to pay for such an expensive series and wants cuts made. I don't know if it will get made now or when. Site posted on this thread. Leadmen:confused:
