I'm really sad about this too..another great face of the old war movies is gone..i remember him for his role as Brooks in "The Shawshank Redemption"..but the sergeant in "Battleground" is his most memorable interpretation..Good Bye James!Now you are with God..

Whitmore was no only a fine actor but he had been the "real deal". He was in the USMC in WW2. No wonder he could do military characters so well. They don't make actors like him anymore.
