I'm thinking of the movie versions of the Austen and Cornwell stories of course.
I was explaining to my daughter (14) who knows Sean Bean only as Boromir, that Richard Sharpe with his cast of fictional characters were in the approximate time period with the Austen characters (as were Hornblower and Aubrey), but had very different lives. She gets that part but she wanted to know why I wanted Sharpe to hurt the Austen characters. I told her I just wanted Sharpe to shake them up a little then take Wickham back to the Peninsula.
The Austen stories make me want a "man" or a "grown-up" to come in and straighten everyone out. But then that wouldn't be a Jane Austen story.
I found that when we watched the latest Little Women, I wanted to see what the Dad was doing in the war..maybe a few explosions.
I did show my daughter Master and Commander and she pointed out Pippin at the helm of the HMS Surprise.
