I've always had a thing for doing ethnocentric projects. Using an old British Museum booklet reference, I had made a master and a limited number of castings of a musical instrument which was used to support a couple of bronze gongs. The piece was very complex and was assembled from castings and brass etched parts. Some were painted in toy soldier style but I kept a few back for eventual painting into a model soldier style.

I am planning an unusual vignette to showcase this musical instrument with one of two musicians.

Brilliant work Victor,

will you be displaying your Golden Chersonese Miniatures with this instrument ????

Maybe you need to show them off again ???

Hi John,

thanks for your very nice compliments.

Golden Chersonese Miniatures was conceived of as an artistic project. Hence the figures were created in an abstracted vein.
What I want do here is to take some castings from that concept and turn them into model miniatures.

So where valid, I'll give some background and show some comparison photos.

Here's a simple progress on the painting of the instrument. Notice the bent wire hooks which were incorporated into the original design. I used wire instead of having them cast as these hooks were meant to support the weight of the hefty cast gongs. This was a very complex piece, comprising 7 separate castings with a brass etched wing. The castings were indivdually pinned and epoxied together. Real manual labour.

I found a couple of gong castings and have added some gilt paint.
