Thanks to you John Jenkins, for saying that you will not be producing any army men or tanks any time soon! Some of us would like to collect something other than tanks especially when its the third or fourth time around. Winter, summer, 2nd, 3rd edition, gold, silver edition etc. This forum is filled will WWII collectors and thanks to all, but I am glad that the toy soldiers of the WORLD dont just collect WWII or somebody like me would have no place in this hobby.

yes,me too-i do not like WWII,or WWI.
I like wild west the most, but also everything till 1900.So sometimes i am sad when i watch all other who collect WWII how they get all new sets, with so much diferent figures,tanks,airplanes,dioramas,....but for other range it is not a lot of figures.Like king and country,i still wait for their "new" products of Real west range,WBritain have no wild west,First legion rather make Samurai than wild west,...So i really like John Jenkins because it is my kind of collection, but i will like to see John Jenkins also produce plains indians(Sioux,Comanche,Chayene,Kiowa,Apache,....) is this posible?

I dont know, but this fourm has almost become useless for me as
I
could careless about tanks planes and army men. If you try and start a new thread no one answers. Hey how about a sherman for the 15th time!

Hi ApacheJoe,

I certain respects I agree with you. Personally, I am really tired of WWII vehicles and figures. Even if a manufactor is going to do WWII can we move beyond Normandy and the Battle of the Buldge. What is also disappointing is that many manufactors grind out the same old vehicles, especially Shermans. What about Daimler armor cars, bren gun carriers, and some french vehicles ? Another disappointment is that FOV vehicles are approximately $50. which is rather expensive for 1/35 plastic model. Too bad 21st century went down the tubes, good value for the money.

What Jenkins clearly demonstrated is that there are plenty of collectors interested in other conflicts, such as FIW, and that these products will sell if they are quality figures. Thank god for JJ Designs.

I have nothing against the World Wars, I even like to look at the dioramas these guys put out.

It's just too big of an era for me to collect at this time.........so many battles.

I'm passionate right now about the FIW, I don't think anyone does Indians as good as John does.

Mike, I strongly agree with your statement regarding Indians: NO ONE crafts them better then Jenkins. I also share your passion for FIW and I find the Jacobites to be absolutely AMAZING -- true works of art! Another passion for me, however, is the American Civil War and I would LOVE to see what Jenkins could do with that period. King & Country has recently produced a fantastic set of Confederate cavalry, but I think Jenkins would do better.

I view my Jenkins toy soldiers not merely as "toys," but true works of art. Each figure has a personality, quality, and craftsmanship that sets it apart. Jenkins has been impressive with his 18th Century collection, but I would like him to eventually press on to the 19th Century, with the ACW in particular. I can only imagine what he could do with personality figures such as Stuart, Grant, Sheridan, Custer, Mosby, Chamberlain, Sherman, Hood, etc., not to mention the legendary 20th Maine or the Irish and Iron Brigades, to name but a few. Does any other Jenkins collector share my view? If not, what would you like to see Jenkins produce in the future?

i'd love to see John create a Malburian range. this would fit nicely in to the timeline plus its something none of the mainstream manufacurers do in any depth, if at all. A company in Germany do a nice but limited range in terms of availability and numbers. The Wars of the Spanish Succession could throw up a whole new exciting range as could venturing out in to Seven Years War in Europe and perhaps India. Depends I suppose if the US market stomachs demand.

For the moment I'd like John to stick with the French Indian War, as I'm happy to continue building my collection. Otherwise agree with an expansion into the European theatre.

For a totally new series, agree I would like to see John and other manufacturers expand the number of conflicts available to collectors,

i.e. not WWII, Napoleonic, ACW, AWI or the Zulu war even though I already collect Zulu war and ACW. I just think there are enough other manufacturers covering these periods.

My suggestions for other periods that haven't really been done would be:

Hussite wars, Russo-Turkish war, Great Northern War or the Williamite wars

Spanish Succesion would also be interesting.

I honestly don't think John is going to expand to any new series soon.

He has so much unfinshed work to do on Jacobites, 1812 and other series.

I would really be surprised to see any new series introduced anytime soon.

Funny thing. When I first started collecting about 20 years ago there were almost no WWII figures on the market. That was my primary interest and I still can't understand why no one made them back in the day. It was mostly Naps and Ancients at that time.

Now there are plenty of companies making WWII - not so much WWI. I collect many of them. JJ has carved out a niche with the FI War and some others. Lots of left to be done with that era. One thing that has surprised me over the years is the lack of historical knowledge among collectors. I thought most would come to this hobby due to an interest and knowledge in history, but now I tend to believe it results from watching war movies or shows on TV. Nothing wrong with that, but the French-Indian war is always going to be niche market among the majority no matter how good they are. Just enjoy them.

John's own soldier collection is on the history of the Northwest Mounted Police and RCMP. Someday in the future he would love to do a series on these. There are lots of us who like the Mounties and would welcome such figures from JJD.
When I was a boy in the 1950s one of my favorite shows 1st on radio and then on TV was Sgt. Preston of the Yukon. I even named my dog Yukon King after his. I loved going to Ottawa to see them outside Parliament,

Hi APACHEJOL
Thanks for starting this thread I totally agree with all the comments from the previous threads. JJ has provided collectors with an alternative to collecting. I have no problems with 20th century collections but my personal interest are pre 1900. I have to say that the comments from fellow collectors goes only to prove that there is an interest other than the World Wars. I would like to see The English Civil War on JJ's agender - but I would have no problems with most of the suggestions I have just read. Thanks mate for bringing this up and thanks to JJ for producing one of the worlds finest toy soldiers.

This is what I hoped the thread would do! Start talking about things other than WWll. So many other areas of history and for companys to keep remaking the same tanks and time frames of WWll seems crazy to me. Some will have you believe that WWll is the only way for companys to pay the bills. That is total bs! I am sure there is a poll to follow at sometime and of course is will be a WWll blowout, but thankfully most companys understand this forum is a small section of the toy soldier world and thier polls mean little if anything. And from the looks of JJ creations he cares little of these polls!

As an add on to the JJ 18th how about a few figures of Spanish troops in Florida and Georgia or troops in the West Indies?
Cheers,
Benjamin

What a great idea !

And then we could perhaps have some SEMINOLE INDIANS !!

:D :D :D

Or maybe we can get an Aztec Empire figures.Think about the piramids, god sacrifise, this aztec fashion with wooden masks, colours, montezuma, teutachlan streets,....spanish soldiers,counqvistadors,Cortes,....

What would you guys think of more battles inside the french and Indian war? JJD seems to have a nich and there are more battles to explore during this time period. I just think this is a time period that people like and we can expand on our collections. Me I would like to see plains Indians or Revoultion times like maybe a line on Bunker Hill, Last of the Mohicans, Hurons, Boston Tea Party, Tecumseh, Black Hawk, Pontiacs Rebellion, Osceola and the Semimnole War (RON), Yoholo-Micco and the Creek War, Iroqouis, Seneca, Red Jacket, the minutemen, Joseph Brandt, the Six Nations, Lafayette, Danelle Boone, Davey Crockett, Tippecanoe, more grenadiers, Seminole Nation, Creek Nations, Shawnee and Pawnee nation, Sioux and Cheyenne Nation, Apaches, Comanches, Kiowas, 7th calvary, Ticonderoga or maybe more tanks like the sherman for the 21st time? Toy soldiers have not even touched the beginning of US history let alone world history come on get creative! What do you think?

That would take about 20 years to get all to get all that out.
Mark
