JJD Rickenbacker SPAD Mini video! (1 Viewer)

Thanks for posting this. I did have some concern about how the Spad green camo colors appeared in the company photos but in this video the colors appear much more subdued and of the correct shade. It goes back to how one must see the model inperson as opposed to judging from photos. It is a terrific looking model. -- Al

I noticed a couple of oddities in the video, but only one of them even warrants mention.

The clip encourages folks to visit the JJD website and purchase the model.

However, I couldn't find any place on the website to buy! :redface2:

In facts, there's no mention of the SPAD at all.^&confuse

Hi Moe, the SPAD hasn't been released yet. JJD UK received just the one from John for display at their London Toy Soldier Show Stand.

It does state in the video that the SPAD will be: "available end of Apri 2013".

Cheers! Roy.

Hi Old Bill,

I think that I get it now.

Near the end of the movie, an image of the new I-16 appears.

When the text appears that says "Order Now," immediately thereafter...

It must be in reference to that model.

BTW, I never realized that there's a JJD retail site for the UK:

The SPAD looks amazing!

Any ideas on the livery that might appear in future models?

I remember having a model YEARS and YEARS ago with an Indian headdress painted on it. Is that another famous ace's plane? Sorry if that sounds stupid, but I'm not a WW1 aces expert!

The Indian head you are describing is most likely the Lafayette Escadrille insignia. This was a very famous French squadron that was made up of Americans flying in French servive prior to US involvment. It was designated N-124 when flying Nieuports, S-124 when flying Spads, and it became Squadron 124 when transferred to the USAS after US entry into the war. If I remember correctly, the Escadrille started combat ops in April-May 1916. The Indian head emblem was adopted sometime in the fall, around October, of the same year. There was another USAS squadron that used a different Indian head emblem but I do not remember which squadron, right off hand. -- Al

My apologies, but the Lafayette Escadrille became the 103rd Aero Squadron under the USAS, not the 124th. Sorry. :redface2: -- Al

The 28th and 93rd Aero Squadrons also carried Indian head emblems, both of different designs and distinct from the Lafayette Escadrille (103rd AS). Sorry to put this in a seperate post, but for some reason my editing feature is non-functional. -- Al

Thanks Al,
Your reply is very informative.

Glad to help. Sorry the answer was so disjointed. Just to add, French fighter squadrons that flew the Spad, carried the prefix Spa, as in Spa 124 or Spa 3, or whatever. I just shortened it to S because that is what I have done for years. I got a bit lazy.:wink2: -- Al

Thanks again Al.
If you were to take punt, which SPAD do you think may come next?

Pete
