I'd like to show my first exploration of using a terrain board and my JJD WW1 collection.

I'd also be very happy for other members to showcase their JJD WW1 pieces on boards here too.

I'll be posting my;

GWB - Great War British
KotS - Knights of the Skies (mostly German but British arriving tomorrow)
WAtD - Wheels Across the Desert (awaiting new terrain board)

All pieces are JJD except 1 K&C item (and a pint to the first person to spot it) and the terrain boards are by TM Terrain Miniatures and David Marshal.

As mentioned, this is my first attempt and I'm a couple of weeks away from using a back-drop and this thread will be a good place for me to practice and adapt.

All critique welcome - all of the first pictures are taken with an iPhone 😂

Now, I maybe wrong but I think it's the little coil of K&C 'Barbed Wire'...If so, where and when do I get that pint on offer..?
Best wishes and happy collecting! Andy.

And the winner of the pint goes to Andy from King and Country - I'm often to be found in Plat, downstairs from the shop - come and get the pint sometime.

Here's my first set of British KotS pieces. It's fun doing these if not prosessionally done 😂

Taken in post-typhoon lighting (dank and depressing) on my kitchen breakfast bar with an iPhone 😂

The bases on your BGC sets meld very nicely with your terrain board. I see a lot of potential here, particularly with liberal doses of blue and khaki spread about. As for "the pusher" in the middle of the pic, I'm ^&grin with envy!

Here's another shot, unfortunately taken at an angle as I've no backdrops yet.

Occurred to me that terrain boards for picture taken need to be trapezoidal in nature to account for the loss of, well I'm not sure of the term, the loss of the visual aspect of a square - aiii can someone help me out on the correct term here 😂😂😂

Vicknor, I think that it's related to perspective and the fact that the lateral vanishing points behind the limits of the model's wings shouldn't exceed the rearmost width of your surface and/or backdrop. You can reduce the problem by moving your camera away from the subject, thereby reducing the angle and the width of the vanishing points in like proportion. The problem with that approach is that you'll need a better camera and lens (or you'll lose crispness and detail). It also helps to move the model toward the far edge of your mat or other surface, another method of reducing the angle that I mentioned. If you could just see my hands...it all makes perfect sense with sufficient gesture! ;)

Are these just flat boards or did David do anything to them to make them distinctive?

Flatbush I'd guess on this one with a muddied track entering the field and fencing - it's what I asked for.

The grassed area may not show it but it has a varied colour scheme rather than the same flock across the surface and 'worn' areas where the grass has been reduced or muddied. For a 'simple' piece it really is very well worked

Thanks. As long as it does what you wanted it to do, that's what counts. Is it something you're planning on making permanent for WW I or do you plan to use it for other ranges/historical periods.

By the way, terrific looking plane.

The original plan was (is) a number of different boards, none being permanent display; just unbox-take pictures-share-rebox-buy-repeat

This board was only for my JJD KotS German originally as I have 9 of them, but now I'll probably end up using it for all sorts

I have a desert board on order with David for my Wheels Across the Desert JJD and my K&C DAK, but I also want a browner more Iberian style one for my Peninsular War and a city/street one for my K&C WW2 - heaven knows what I'll have to get for the FL Samurai
