Jonathon Ross suspended from BBC (1 Viewer)

This is a question for anyone who watches the news over here.What do you make of the whole Russell Brand Jonathon Ross furore?.They obviously went too far and caused great offence,but does anyone else think that 30,000 complaints days after the event is over the top and 'professional complainers' at work?.

For all my American friends who don't know what i'm talking about,two of the BBC's most popular DJ's made a series of obscene on air calls to the answer machine of Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.During the calls they made obscene remarks about Sachs Grandaughter who Russell Brand slept with.Its been the biggest news story over here for days and Brand has resigned whilst Ross has been suspended for three months.

I'm just wondering if this is been totally overblown,and with the country facing economic crisis i'd have thought prime minster Brown would have better things to occupy him than this.

First I have heard of this. It does sound all a bit silly and overblown as you describe it, much the same as the brouhaha over Palin's wardrobe expenses over here. Oddly no one bothers to note that Obama buys a new $1500 grey (boring) suit every week or so. Of course what does it matter what any of this bunch choses to spend its campaign money on; if you gave it to them you should expect that they will use it as they see fit to try and win. Appearing frumpy or wrinkled probably doesn't help. Funny what people (or the silly press) latch on to.

What's never mentioned in those stories in the MSM is that those clothes are being returned and/or sold/auctioned after their use, so the expenses are recouped.

Hey Rob, listened to the radio broadcast on the internet...was it painful..wasn't even funny...the guys just sounded like 2 idiots.., for that reason alone I'm glad they have been kicked off the air Sometimes something can be done in bad taste and be genuinely funny..this was just nasty and in badtaste and not remotely funny No mitigating circumstances ..off with their heads

Yeah theres no doubt it wasn't funny,a stunning lapse in taste.What Andrew Sachs must have felt to hear that about his Grandaughter i don't know,imagine coming home and hearing that on your answer machine!

Brand has already resigned from the BBC and Ross has been suspended… he should be fired and lose his £18 million package. He has been over-paid and under-talented for too long. I don’t think the public is over-the-top either. Perhaps, at long last, the great British public are getting fed up with the crap they are being fed by the BBC and other television media in the UK.

As for Brown being better occupied… he’s already helped destroy Britain so why bother about a few more Labour sound-bites.

Yo Andy, couldn't agree more about Ross & Brand, pair of overrated idiots, and about as funny as toothache. But totally disagree about your comments on Gordon Brown, for one he has only been PM for 5 minutes, and what happened with the US economy & the Global recession cannot be blamed on Gordon Brown. If you watched Alan Sugar commenting on Gordon Browns ability as PM, he reckons he is one of the cleverest, guys he has met in his lifetime, and as you know Alan Sugar is no fool. I don't believe anyone thinks that Conservative Pratt is rated any higher than Brand or Ross.

I fully agree that these two should be sacked,i've never thought Ross was talented myself.Whilst this was obscene and much more than an 'on air slip' i wonder if many people are taking the chance to bash the BBC,perhaps as you say Andy people are finally getting fed up with the corporation.I just wondered that as the reaction has been so huge that perhaps something or someone is behind it,pushing it on so to speak.

But i do agree that Ross and Brand will be no loss to broadcasting.Another obscene fact in all this is how anyone justified paying Ross £18 million,they too should face the chop.

I think a lot of people are getting fed up with the cult of "celebrity", most of the persons who are catalogued as such are complete non-entities and have little claim to such title. A lot of the shows on British TV are going down this road because it is cheap to produce, "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here", "Celebrity strictly come dancing", "Celebrity Big Brother" etc. Hardly any of the participants are household names. The problem is this labelling makes them think they are untouchable and they can get away with anything. This latest fiasco is typical, two self opinionated louts picking on an inoffensive 78 year old actor and bombarding him with offensive and degrading phone calls as a "prank"? They should be barred for life, not three months.

Indeed they are Damian..there was a documentary on the very subject last night which I unfortunately missed. Hope I can catch it on a re-run.

It's worth bearing in mind though that the lady in question is a member of the "Satanic ****s" burlesque group and has made a load of money from the papers telling her "saucy secrets" and nights with Russel Brand
LOL it's all a bit of a storm in a teacup.

The real issue has been the fact that the newspapers have been after Jonathan Ross for a long time now. The papers agree with most people outside the BBC that he is a huge waste of space with no talent and too big a pay packet!
