MBL004 Mati Hari - August 7[SUP]th [/SUP]1876 to October 15[SUP]th[/SUP] 1917

Mata Hari [Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod, née Zelle]. Dancer and courtesan whose name has become a synonym for the seductive female spy.

Mata Hari found fame as a performer of Asian-inspired dances in the early 1900s in Paris. She soon began touring all over Europe, telling the story of how she was born in a sacred Indian temple and taught ancient dances by a priestess who gave her the name Mata Hari, meaning “eye of the day” in Malay. In reality, Mata Hari was born in a small town in northern Holland in 1876, and her real name was Margaretha Geertruida Zelle.

She became a famous courtesan during WW1 and her lovers included high-ranking military officers. In early 1917, French authorities arrested her for espionage and imprisoned her in Paris. In a military trial conducted in July, she was accused of revealing details of the Allies’ new weapon, the tank, resulting in the deaths of thousands of soldiers. She was convicted and sentenced to death and on October 15[SUP]th[/SUP] 1917, refusing a blindfold was executed by a firing squad at Vincennes. The nature and extent of her espionage activities remain uncertain and her guilt is widely contested.
Thanks to Michael Beverland for suggesting this figurine for our Femme Fatale series, a sample has been posted to him for his contribution to Thomas Gunn. In all honesty, our Mata Hari would be equally at home in the 'Naughty Forties Club' or in this outfit would fit in just as easily with our Roman or Egyptian series.

Limited to 100 pieces, comes in a seductive pose on a specially commissioned plinth. Priced at $55 per figure whilst stocks last.

For those collectors who like to paint their own figures, we have some figures in a limited edition unpainted version, check out the TG Website for further details.

That's it for now guys, the aircraft newsletter will be out next week with some great 'WOW' additions.
Best wishes The Gunn Team

SS143A - SS Trooper in Camo firing an MP40 - $55/£50
SS143B - Heer Private firing an MP40 - $50/£47.50

The MP40 is probably one of the most iconic weapons of WWII, this soldier is keeling ready for action. This figure works excellent with our previous release in this range and with no base the figure can be used on vehicles or in a building. The figure has his ammo pouch for a quick magazine change, because unlike the MP40 Clint Eastwood used in 'Where Eagles Dare', his magazine was not everlasting.
We have 50 of each version available.

SS134B Prone Heer MG 34 Team $110/£100

We listened to feedback from collectors who requested a German Heer MG Team. The result is excellent, but then we may be a little biased. These two gunners are midway through their first ammo box, with two more boxes waiting if needed.
Limited to 80 pieces worldwide.

80mm SS Mortar Teams

Sending out a salvo, whether in support of an attack or to repel attackers, these sets of 2 figures with mortar make a great addition to the Thomas Gunn SS troops. We are extremely pleased with these new editions, check out the bases, the mortar ammo box and the rifle is within easy reach in case the action gets a bit more up close and personal.
Two versions to choose from, or you can have both if the credit card allows it.

SS133A - 80mm Camo Mortar Team $110 per set.
SS133B - 80mm Camo Winter Mortar Team $110 per set.

I think the MP40 figures are among the highlight of this release. Really like not having the bases on these figures for tank/vehicle riders.

Thomas Gunn Roman Range

We are very pleased with the way this range is progressing and collectors have been snapping them up. The Praetorian range has been very popular, with the first Eagle Standard figure selling out in less than 3 weeks, therefore we are offering this month a further final version. The Thomas Gunn females figures have been a hit, ironically these naked figures take longer to paint and require more skill than painting clothed figures. We are out of stock at Thomas Gunn of the first releases and have a limited amount left of last month's releases in stock. Best check with your Toy Soldier Dealer, see our website for stockists, to see if they have any left in stock

For some collectors the naked ladies have been a controversial subject, however we would like to point out that these have been our fastest selling Romans ever and these ladies have nearly all sold out here at TG HQ. However this is it for the time being as we move production over to conventional Romans which next month includes our 'Repel Cavalry' figures.

ROM 149C. Praetorian with Eagle [Wings Spread] - $55.00/£50.00

Praetorian with Eagle, Spread Wings, following the popular first edition of our Pretorian with Eagle, we have our final version, this time with spread wings.
Only 30 pieces now left in stock.

june 1.jpg

Dear All

Exhilarating times for Thomas Gunn, we have spent spent a couple of weeks in China and the Philippines. Checking on the wide range of figures, vehicles and planes in the design and production pipeline. As well as discussing future potential ideas for new ranges, it never stops, but it is great fun.

June 2023 has come and is nearly behind us and time seems to be flying by. Speaking of flying, for fans of our Warbirds, we have recently had 130 new planes delivered to our UK HQ. New plane release information will be out next week, as we are busy concentrating on getting this figure newsletter out and preparing for the London Toy Soldier Show, which is on June 24[SUP]th[/SUP] 2023 at Haverstock school. Chalk Farm, London, see link below for full details.

I purchased the Praetorian with Opened Wings Eagle. Great addition to the Roman theme. Modest release this month but certainly some fine figures in the mix.
Can't wait to see the Repel Cavalry.

Well done TGM, some lovely figurines being released this month, alas, none for me. Will look forward in coming months for any French IndoChina figurines.

Cheers,
Grey

Would TG contemplate a set of columns similar to what's depicted in this picture? Would be most useful.

Just putting in my Two penn'orth worth in, and while not wanting to rain on anyone's Parade here, but to me the Ionic capital scrolls on the Columns look cartoonishly bad being so out of scale !

If I was wanting to add diorama / display accessories like these, the scrolls would need to be more in scale or better yet, I'd be wanting columns with Corinthian capitals.

They would look great, though their downside is they'd be more prone to accidental damage and harder to manufacture.

Plain Doric column capitals would probably least prone to damage and be easier to manufacture too.

Anyway just my thoughts !

Sure, Steve. (dark foreboding clouds begin to form over my head as I type and hear the loud clapping sound of thunder in the distance)
As the old saying goes, "once again, something wonderful in my life has been turned into a giant crap-fest"! {sm2} (and this one has Steve's name written all over it)

Seriously, I must say that I like these columns. The "cartoonish" look works for me like a quick makeshift high school theater set or classic Bugs Bunny Roman Legion Hare. {sm4} I like to have fun with my TS and hell, I know you've enjoyed Minotaurs and Skeleton Warriors yourself. What can an over-sized cartoon column or two hurt? ^&grin

Also waiting patiently for a new chariot...

Was just an opinion and suggestion Rob !

While it may of come over as negative sounding, it wasn't intended to be that, rather as to what would probably sell better for them, producing the best results sales wise for them.
Though of course it's only my opinion as a collector as to what I would spend my hard earned on and wanting the best outcome for them so that they continue having a good output of new products. Enabling them to expand their collector base, when especially in the present climate collectors for the most part are not having the same level of disposable income due to other demands on their finances. I'd say companies need as many positive outcomes to their investments in projects as possible.

TG have are great when it comes to responding to customers and their service is excellent. I like what do TG produce even when if it's not a theme I collect !

Anyway thanks Rob for reminding me it's only toy soldiers :salute::

Yes was getting far too serious about it {eek3} and need to unwind

Was this close to what you were imagining ? :

Yes, always enjoyable mixing up myth and pop culture in the form of Minotaurs and Skellies etc, much to the annoyance of some.
TG's Naked ladies range would make great Sirens calling Odysseus tied to his Galley mast in their Myths and Legends range !
