Dear John,
First of all, World War Two and its many, many “Theatres of Operations” will never, ever be “complete”. There will always be ways to improve...expand...develop new and exciting avenues to explore with this huge subject. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...I could live three lifetimes and never do everything that both I and hordes of collectors (including you) want.
Secondly, K&C is running a business...that has to make a profit...that means we look at all available options and opportunities to see which would be the most popular...commercial...and we hope...successful.
That means making decisions and choices that don’t necessarily agree with one particular collector’s “needs...wants...and must haves.” It’s easy to compile “shopping lists” of what you want and what we should make and when we should make it. Usually you want it immediately if not yesterday but...failing that...tomorrow at the latest.
A successful business is not run on that basis and, as I’ve said many times before, we would be “out of business” in double quick time if we ran it as such.
Thirdly, it may have escaped your notice that we, believe it or not, also design and produce a wealth of other series and ranges that appeal to a wide spectrum of collectors other than World War Two. It’s our duty (and good business) to try to cater for as wide a range of collecting tastes as possible. If we were to subscribe to John’s lengthy “shopping lists” no other collector would ever get a “look-in” anytime. But, to go back to our WW2 buffs (and I am one myself) the vast majority of WW2 collectors do not have bottomless pockets and untold wealth that they can spend on their passion and hobby. Most of us need a little “breathing space” to get what we like and catch up, perhaps, with some previous release that we missed first time round. That’s why we stagger releases and try to give all collectors a variety of product throughout the year.
Fourthly, John, I really do appreciate your passion and many of your ideas and suggestions but, sit down...pour yourself a nice cold beer and think and reflect on what’s possible...what’s impossible...and, very occasionally, what’s just plain crazy.
Best wishes and...happy collecting!
Andy C
