Did this particular Sherman see combat during late 44 ? I wanted to make sure this would be accurate to put in a Battle of the Bulge display...

Do you have an easier warm-up question? ^&grin

I don't have a definite answer but at some point in the Battle of the Bulge and subsequent US counter attack to January 25, 1945, some M4A3E8 (76) (W) did get into it. The first ones were likely not whitewashed as it had not snowed yet at the beginning of the battle. And once it did snow, Patton would not have stopped to whitewash them during his dash to relieve Bastogne. The reason I mention Patton's 3rd Army is because I believe they got the first delivery of 21 M4A3E8 in December 1944 and were the only ones to get them. But there were (I think) 5 armoured Divisions in 3rd Army and I don't know which Divisions got them or when they actually got into battle. 3rd Army got 28 more Easy 8 in January 1945 and 62 in February..I would use one in a scene.

This particular Sherman saw combat in the Battle of the Bulge . I know for sure that the 8th tank Battalion/4th armored div was equiped with this type of Sherman late december 1944

Yes, the first shipment of M4A3E8s had been received in Europe and most of the first batch went to the US 4th Armored Division as replacement vehicles. More M4A3E8s came to Europe as the battle wore on, especially in January 1945. After that they appear to have been one of the most common new tanks sent to Europe.

So, yes they belong in the Battle of the Bulge.
