Hi, I`m Billy. I have only been collecting soldiers for about 3 years, but I`ve got myself a good collection, mainly britains k+C, conte, and the corgi forward march etc. However, I have just purchased -off e bay a sergeant 1879 Zululand model that says "Hachette" on the base, but the piece of card with it says"produced by king and country" I`m a little confused as another piece of card appears to advertise others in the series "heroes of the British empire" I have looked on the Hachette site etc but can find no reference to this series or model. Can anyone help.?

hi Billy,
this was a Partwork TEST launched in UK by the French Hachette (may be ten years ago): 'Soldiers of the British Empire'. The figures were released by King and Country.
Went four or five issuses: 24th foot South Wales Borders 1879, 11th Hussars Crimea 1854, Naik 2nd Gurkhas Tirah 1897, and NW Mountie 1897. There may have been a Bengal Lancer also?!?!
You can see also at page 11 of the issue #21 of Collector Magazine on K&C site.
Cheers
Carlo

hello

This was an bi-weekly collection they launched 11 years ago, it was called Soldiers of the Empire and they only did 4 figures, we figured they did not sell well so they decided to cancel the range. I have the four, Sick figure, Canadian Mountie, 24th Zulu figure and your figure.

happens a lot in the diecast car market, at the same time they launched a 'Land rover' range, did not sell so they cancelled that range as well.
