K & C have released a number of 'alternative versions' [Andy's words in another thread] of figures in the last few years, many, including myself, have referred to them as 'repaints'. Well i will stop doing this and agree with Andy they are 'alternative versions'.
I buy from JJD and TGM, both of which companies release the same figures/vehicles as 'alternative versions' and i do not call them 'repaints'. For example the new Far East Matilda Tank from TGM, there will be mulitiple Western Desert, France 1940 and Russian versions, all painted differently, but i would not call them 'repaints'.
it is a bit Churish to call K & C 'repaints' and the only difference in some cases is release timing, they are also not 'repaints' because K & C are not taking an already painted figure and 'repainting it'.
It has the advantage of giving collectors to buy figures they may have missed, i bought the 'alternative' Saracens and they look distinctly different from the first versions, they also look better as a mini-diorama grouping, withe their overall look being more uniform that the orginals, while the originals do look great in a mass with the others i have.
What would you like to see an 'alternative version' of? I have said it before but for me i would like to the following
Elefant - Kursk version - there are loads of pictures/books/etc with documentation and will need the front mantel changing and the top hatches, but would be great.
2LLb for France 1940
Citroen [from WS91 and 92] in French FFI colours
BotB Jeep [BBA50] but with Bazookes on the mount [OK i know not a repaint but certainly an alternative].
Cromwell alternative version
