K.Warren Mitchell, a stalwart of the toy soldier hobby and mentor to many, died unexpectedly April 20 at his Ohio home. He was 73.
A well respected collector and dealer in toy soldiers, Warren had been a self-described “Toy Soldier Specialist and Expert on American Dimestore Soldiers.” He was also an occasional author on the subject of toy soldiers. The one article which stands out most in my mind was “Collecting Strategies”- which appeared in the ‘The World Toy Soldier Directory and Compendium’ where he laid out a concise strategy for collecting toy soldiers.
At one time, he was the leading distributor of the Alymer range of toy soldiers, imported from Spain.
His old toy soldier price lists were eagerly anticipated, so much so, that many of the most desirable items were spoken for as soon as the lists were received by anxious collectors.
Warren was a regular at the The Chicago Toy Soldier Show Somehow this year’s show will not be the same without K. Warren Mitchell.
